Hi all
I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer denovo in Jan 2015 with lung mets. I have been stable on herceptin and perjeta for over 4 years and all good. I’ve started getting pain in my shoulder that seems to get worse at night and this has been going on for a good few weeks and it doesn’t seem to be letting up. Does anyone have bone mets in shoulder that can tell me what the pain was like and what treatment have you had?
Hi dennymac
I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this shoulder pain. As you haven’t had a reply to the community yet, do feel free to give one of our specialist breast care nurses a call tomorrow if you’d like to.
You can reach them on 0808 800 600.
Take care, Becca at Breast Cancer Care.
Hi
I’ve just come upon your message. I was diagnosed with shoulder and humerus bone cancer last year. Mine started off with a achy/dull feeling in my arm that was controllable and just before seeing the doctor the pain in my arm was so extreme to the extent I couldn’t turn the car steering wheel without feeling sick with the pain. As you have also mentioned the pain at night time was constant.
I never had pain in my shoulder it was always in my arm.
I ended up having a shoulder and humerus replacement last September. The operation was successful in that the cancer was removed but I am left with very limited movement in my shoulder and unable to lift my arm forward from my shoulder and have no strength in my arm from my shoulder. I have physio and hydro-pool physio once week and this has made a massive difference- however because of the operation and the muscles cut, I will never have full movement in my shoulder. Most of my movement now comes from my elbow and I have learnt to use my left arm and hand more, (I’m right handed) for such things as personal hygiene, dressing etc. I find using a knife difficult as I have no strength pushing down and I haven’t got behind a wheel of car since last June.
i don’t know if you have been to find out where the pain is coming from and if it is bone cancer? There’s an awful lot more I can write about and more than happy to tell you more about my journey if you have been diagnosed. Where I live none of the professionals have dealt with someone in my position, so I am kind of on my own and every day brings new challenges but also new rewards in what I can do. I have been told it takes up to 2 years for the shoulder to gain as much strength as possible, so my journey continues.
I wish you well and hope you are being well looked after.
