Dear Ladies So I’ve finally stopped crying. I’m not sure if I’m coming to terms with what’s happening to me or it’s the anti depressants kicking in. I start palpociclib today. I’m a little nervous that it’s tablets and it’s strong enough. The oncologist was a little more positive about managing bone mets yesterday. I hope she didn’t feel she had to do that as I was so anxious. Anyway for all of us dealing with this she did seem to suggest that treatments can work for some time. I’m learning to focus more on now. Feeling a little guilty about work! I am a treacher who hadn’t had a day off sick for twenty years. Now I’m not going in at all! Physically I’m fine. Mentally improving. Off to see my parents today x
Dear Anne30 and Ladies
A year on I hope you are well and have had the strength to fight your battle. I have just on May the 14th was diagnosed with grade 2 cancer and then a double want to find it spread to my bones. I’ve now stopped crying and trying to come to terms with this. I have yet to tell my children. For me this is the allotment challenge. I start Chemo on the 28th. Please let me know how you got on
Hello Nina
Welcome to the forum and hope you find some good advice her on the threads .
Hopefully Anne will be reading and able to reply to you but at least you are starting treatment quickly.
Bone mets can be managed for many many years with the right regime and once you get focused you will find that you adapt to the new living with cancer situation.
We are real people here …we understand how you feel and are here for you anytime you want to rant and rave !!
Dear Nina I was diagnosed in April with breast cancer and bone mets at the same time. I thought I was a calm and strong person but I cried for days and days. I also googled endlessly which was not helpful. Once I started treatment I felt better. The ladies on here were patient and kind. They told me I would feel better in time and they were right. I hope that you have good support. I told my children (21 and 24 both boys). I don’t think about cancer all the time now. I’m back at work full time and so far I feel well. I think the initial stage is really hard and wish you well x
I will add that the advice to focus on positive things you can do to keep healthy was also very helpful to me x
Hi Ann.
I too was diagnosed with BC, which was oestrogen receptor +. This was March of this year after experiencing ongoing bone pain (lower back and hip joints).
I am on crutches but that was only to keep weight off my hips I have no pain now and about to have founth Biphosphonate infusion for my bones.
I am on Ribociclib, which is similar to the one you are on, along with oestrogen suppressants
I feel now that I have some sort of future and am able to look forward to events and make plans.
The tablets are strong enough, as an Oncology nurse I know that some medication are better broken down by the gut and are metabolised by the body in this fashion.
In fact please take you Meds with food.
Sit and chew food really well.
Drink fluids before and after your meals (but don’t gulp).
Answer sip water, ginger beer or something you like through the team day.
Let me know how you get on.
Gina x
Sorry Ann.
My preemptive spelling may make sentences appear weird.
I am getting on fine thank you. I feel well and am just getting on with life. I just take the tablets and hope for the best. After two cycles (8 weeks) my lymph nodes are back to normal and my breast lump is tiny. Scan in July will tell me about my bones. Wishing you well
Dear Ann I really feel for you as I’m a teacher too and the last thing I would do is take a day off.
I was diagnosed with bone mets last April. After that I took a day off to do a bone biopsy. I got up the next day wanting to go to work and my husband looked at me as though I was mad!! He told me to get back to bed so took another day off!
Now 1 year plus things are more stable and yes there are good days and bad but one plods on.
