Could anyone tell me more about life with bone mets? Is it possible to work? I am wondering what life is going to be like?

How long is a bit of string ? We are all different with bone mets. Some ladies here continue working? Swimming etc etc. .in my case I had to have a femur pin and therefore am not that mobile . The hormones can control the bone mets for many many years. .without any real pain or problems .
I’m sure u will be fine as you are an active person …I’m older and was retired anyway …
Take a day at a time and your body will soon tell you what is right /wrong! !

Thank you. That’s encouraging. I’m 53 and am really fit. Do you think it’s worth continuing to exercise? Does the shock wear off?
Sorry to bombard you all but it’s so helpful to hear from others. A month ago I didn’t even know I had breast cancer and had never felt so well!

Welcome to the forum. It is abit of a shock when you get diagnoised with secondary breast cancer. I felt the same back in October 2009. Breast and bone mets at same time.
I was dianoised when I was 57 carried on working until I was 63 31 hours per week. I did work full time be before breast cancer.

You are going to be fine as you are so positive …counselling does help lots of ladies here. .it didn’t for me …felt patronised and dealt with it better my own way.

Thank you for the advice. I’ll try to talk to friends and family. My partner is really good but I don’t want to wreck his life. We need to do normal things but it’s not easy. Do you mind my asking if people manage to carry on living positively and happily with this?

I don’t really know how to answer you honestly as obviously treatment can play a bit part of your plans some days but it’s a mind over matter thing really. You say you are starting chemo so you might get a few iffy days but you can work around them maybe …
Don’t be afraid to accept help and support from you friends and family .

Hello anne. I carried on working for 2 years then took ill health retirement from civil service but it was a difficult decision as i loved my job.
Life acualy goes on pretty normally which sounds strange but there are definite ups and downs and i would say talking with friends and family is really important and helpful. This sire is great too altjough i dont post that often and im 4 years on from secondary diag.
Feel free to rant and rave when yiu need to!

Thank you so much for replying. I think I’ll try to work for as long as possible. I’ve always been so reliable and never ill so it will be a big change. I am a teacher and my employers are very good. I’m hoping I’ll come to terms with all this eventually. This forum is a big help
