Bone pain

What does bone mets feel like? I

was diagnosed a year ago with stage one hormone positive breast cancer ( no lymph node involvement). For about the past four months I have pain to my left rib.  I’m concerned it could be bone mets. My doctors don’t want to do any scans to check as they think it’s unlikely to be bone mets given my initial diagnosis. I didn’t have any full body scans when I was initially diagnosed though.

My rib doesn’t hurt when I press on it and the pain comes and goes. It’s fairly mild pain and isn’t bad enough to take pain killers. If I massage the bone I can hear a clicking noise. Is this type of pain consistent with mets?

Hi, it does sound from your diagnosis that the medics are probably right. Congrats on catching it so early, and we’ll done for getting through it. Once you have had that diagnosis though it is understandable that anxiety plays a part in your life. My BC friends tell me that bone mets are horrendously painful, and the pain does not fluctuate. It is so painful because the cancer eats holes in the bones. Perhaps it needs investigating further as a non cancerous issue! Cracked rib perhaps? X
