Bone scan

I was diagnosed with bc last July, which had not spread to the lymph glands. I had my annual mammogram brought forward, as I had noticed a slight thickening of the tissue in the opposite breast. The mammogram showed a slight increase in density and I had to have an ultrasound scan. After a worrying few days, all turned out to be fine and I thought that would be it until next year!.

At the same time as bringing my mammogram forward, my Oncologist referred me for a bone scan, as I have been having middle back pain since my operation, which is worse when lying down. He did not think there was anything to worry about and said it was to give me peace of mind.

I came home from work tonight and there is a message on my answer phone from the BC nurse, asking me to ring her back. She has now gone home for the day and I can’t get hold of anyone else. I am beside myself with worry, as I can’t think of anything else she could be ringing me about, apart from the results of the scan. I am normally a level headed and rational person, but this is driving me mad.

Does anyone know whether it is normal for the BC nurse to ring with results. I have an appointment with my Onc in August and assumed I would get them then, unless there is anything wrong!

Julie.

Hi Julie

Nothing we will say will calm you until you have spoken to the nurse but hold on to the fact that she maybe calling you to say a number of things relating to the bone scan.

They may have seen what is causing the pain and not necessarily the cancer.
It could be that the scan has been ‘spoilt’ in some way and you need another one.
It maybe that they need to change the appointment because the ONC has changed their holiday.

I expect you are not going to get a good nights sleep but I really do hope that you have a perfectly innocent feed back from the BC Nurse.

Take care
Carol
