Boob job

Hi
I havent started a discussion before so bare with me! I was wondering if I could have a boob job? Ive had a masectomy on one side and am going to have a silicone implant put in in a few months but I really dont like the idea of having one fake boob and one normal one, so I was wondering if its possible to have an implant put in on the side that hasnt been affected by cancer? I guess normally it would be ok but wondered when having check ups like mammograms if the inplant would cause a problem? Im only 30 so I feel Ive got so much life to live and I wanna feel like a woman again! Is there anyone out there who can give me some advice?
Louise

Hi Louise

Think i can help there.
I ask my con if i could have boob job and he said yeah of course. i had immediate recon last may and then started chemo in august. Finished mid nov. He wanted to see mid feb, 3 months after finishing chemo. At this point he put me on his non urgent waiting list for my nipple and healthy breast augmentation. I am now booked for the 9th may. With him, it seemed something that was offered, (although i asked). Although my current match is very good, it does show the differance when i lay down and only 1 boob remains pert. Also, he understands how devastating this disease is, especially for a younger woman, so he giveth better than what he taketh away. I have gone from B to C. As for mammos, it cant be that tricky with them or he would have said wait till the 5 year “all clear” milestone.

So go on ask! It is courtesy of NHS.(phycological reasons)
Even if I had to pay i would have done.
Just imagine…But One Get One Free… BOGOF boobs

Hi im 35 had WLE and have been told i can have a boob job on NHS as well, you just have to prove its effecting quality of life! my affected side is alot smaller than the normal one so my BC nurse has told me to say its about lack of confidence, we have got to carry on with our lives and we are so young!!! especially you

Wow! Thanks sooo much for replyin, it is a phycological thing, but I know it will really bother me and you can see a difference when you lye down or when you run or something, your comments have made me feel well positive bout it all!!! And to top it off I asked my radiotherapy nurse if she knew if it were poss she said she thought it mite be and completely understood why I wanted it!!

Well good luck everyone!

Hi have just read your messages with interest, I had Right mastectomy Nov 06, and permanent implant after expanders in Aug 07, just had corrective surgery March 08 to drop the implant as it was sitting far too high.

I was told at the beginning when it was discovered I had dcis, that as I was small breasted I would probably be offered breast enhancement on my good side. I spoke to the breast cancer consultant, who assured me that they could still screen the good side.

I am approaching 60, and am very active and have looked after my body and feel the rest of me is still in good shape, however, with a boob job on one side and my natural breast fighting gravity, I am still quite lopsided and dont want to have to walk around like this for the rest of my life. So told the plastic surgeon, I want the good one lifted.

He has informed me that the NHS will not fund an enhancement now as a matter of course, and I have to apply to see if they will accept the funding, and have had to face the humilation today of going and standing in front of a medical photographer so that he could take photos to aid my case, as though we havent all been through enough.

It seems I am going to have to fight my corner.

Good luck to you.

Hi everyone I had a reconstruction after a mastectomy in October and in two weeks time my breast surgeon will be doing a Mastoplexy on the normal one - uplift and an implant in needed so that it matches the reconstructed one.
I am really excited!
