Booked a place on the Younger Women Together event in Belfast but worried about going alone?
Every year we receive queries from women, including concerns about coming along to the event on their own. Feedback from previous events has said how helpful it was to talk on the Forums before.
This thread is a chance for you to say hello and “meet” others attending. I will check in regularly and if you have any questions do let me know and I will do my best to answer them.
my name is Joanne, single mum to 2 kids aged 13 and 11 and I’m 40 now. I was diagnosed in July 2017 had a single mastectomy, chemo and radiotherapy. I currently run a wee support group up in the north coast area for cancer as we have very limited resources there so decided make a positive situation out of a negative one.Looking forward to meeting everyone and hearing your inspirational stories.
I’m Sylwia, I’m 41, happily married, mum to 11 years old girl. I was diagnosed in may 2019, full mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, chemotherapy, radiotherapy (just finish last week yeahhhh!!!), started tamoxifen.
I’m looking forward to meeting you all, spend some girly time, get as much information as possible that will help me to move on, hear all your stories and answer any questions you might have for me so don’t hesitate to ask.
Looking forward to meeting everyone on Friday. Though a bit nervous. I am the oldie of the group. I am 45, married with 2 girls. I had a mastectomy on 27 June 2019. Still attend hospital as I developed a seroma, so have had it drained 12 times now. Hopefully coming near the end now. I also just had my pre op assessment and waiting for an admission date to have a hysterectomy and ovaries removed. So straight into menopause. Woo hoo!! See you on Friday xx
Hi I’m Michelle, age 37 with 2 little boys age 2 and 6. I am very recently diagnosed (29/11/2019) so am at the start of my treatment. I am very much looking forward to meeting everyone x
Hi, I’m Emma. I was diagnosed in March 2018 when I was 38. Had a mastectomy followed by radiotherapy and I’m on tamoxifen and zoladex. Hot flushes are the worst, I have a good collection of fans to help me now :). A little nervous but looking forward to this.
Hi I’m Lucy one of the Breast Care Nurses in Craigavon Hospital. I haven’t had a diagnosis of breast cancer (to date anyway) although I know we are all vulnerable for it and it doesn’t discriminate. I am delighted that Breast Cancer Now are coming to host their first ever event in N Ireland and that its aimed at younger women who have had breast cancer. Delighted that each of you has got a place as I know the event has been heavily oversubscribed. I appreciate that some of you are slightly apprehensive about going and about not knowing anybody, that is to be expected but it will be fine! Everyone is pretty much in the same boat. I imagine you are all going as you want to learn a wee bit more about life beyond breast cancer, to meet other girls & to enjoy a night in a hotel, for many of you it will be a night where you have a bed to yourself with no little feet at your back, lol! So girls get your bags packed…pjs, book or magazine & some wee food treats and see you all tomorrow. I really am looking forward to this event and I hope we can give Steph (our organiser) & her team a very warm welcome to N Ireland x
My name is Chloe. I am 29 years old, married and have 2 dogs. I was diagnosed in July 2019. I finished chemotherapy 5 weeks ago and am due to have surgery in the next week or two. I haven’t fully decided which surgical option is best for me and I am hoping that the course will help me with decision making. I am really looking forward to meeting you all and sharing experiences.
See you all tomorrow
Chloe
