Younger Women Together in Bristol
Booked a place on the Younger Women Together event in Bristol but worried about going alone?
Every year we receive queries from women, including concerns about coming along to the Forum on their own. Feedback from previous forums has said how helpful it was to talk on the Forums before the event.
This thread is a chance for you to say hello and “meet” others attending the Forum. I will check in regularly and if you have any questions do let me know and I will do my best to answer them.
Look forward to meeting you at the weekend.

Hi there, I’m Marisa and will be coming on my own this Friday so would be great to know someone in advance! Not coming too far, only from Chipping Sodbury. I was diagnosed with Breast cancer in February this year and had a mastectomy and diep reconstruction in March. Looking to find out more information about Tamoxifen Vs ovarian suppression and different people’s experiences.
Hi All,
I’m Val. I was diagnosed on November 2018 with 3 lumps of high grade DCIS in left breast. Had mastectomy and DIEP reconstuction on 5/1 and been on tamoxifen since 8/2. Side effects manageable now.
Not travelling far at all - North Bristol - glad for the opportunity of the to socialise and share experiences and be educated as every thing happened in such a rush that I don’t think it’s all quite sunk in yet.

Hi, I am Sam from South Bristol.
i had breast cancer in my left breast and lymph nodes in 2013. I finished hormone therapy last November.
At my 5 year mammogram in December they found a lump in a lymph node which turned out to be a recurrence.
i have had chemo (started in feb) and have it’s had surgery. Thankfully they only had to take the lymph node.
I had 5 years on various hormone pills and had side effects with them all so am not looking forward to having to start them again.
i look forward to meeting you all.
Hi I’m Claire and I was diagnosed at the end of January this year with ductal invasive in my left breast.
Initially i was going to have chemo before surgery but the oncologists insisted on surgery first then sent off for an oncotype dx. This came back incredibly low at a 4 so no chemo in the end. I’ve had a month of radiotherapy that ended at the beginning of last month. I’m on tamoxifen.
I’m nervous about coming along and anxious about being away from my children. My anxiety has gone through the roof since diagnosis and it is wearing me out.
Looking forward to meeting everyone xx
Hi my name is Rachel and I’ll be attending on the course on Friday. I live in Cardiff and was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in June 2018. I had wide local excision followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy and finished treatment on 31 December. Although I must admit I’m feeling a bit anxious about attending alone I’m also looking forward to meeting new people and perhaps other ladies who have also been diagnosed triple negative.
Hello!
I’m Katie, 39, diagnosed with IDC & DCIS in March. I had a single mastectomy with no recon in April and have had my second round of FEC today. I’m currently with my parents in Yate as I’m a military wife and we are currently posted abroad so was sent home for treatment. Seem to have coped well so far with treatment and hoping that will continue. Very much looking forward to meeting everyone on Friday
Hi all,
I’m also a bit nervous about attending alone but I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone. Thanks for setting up this thread!
I’m 33 and I was diagnosed with grade 3, HER2 +ve, ER -ve multicentric invasive ductal carcinoma at the end of May 2019. I opted for egg freezing so had my 2 weeks of emergency hormone treatment with the egg ‘harvesting’ procedure last Monday then I had my chest port surgery yesterday and have my first cycle of FEC-TPH chemo tomorrow.
I’m not travelling far either - I live in south Bristol!

Hi all.
I was diagnosed with triple negative ductal carcinoma in October 2018. Had chemo, masectomy, more chemo and recently radiotherapy. It’s been quite a journey the last 8 months!
Looking forward to meeting you all, I’m feeling more nervous the nearer we get to Friday! Xx
Hello, I’m Kate and I live in Bristol. I was diagnosed last September with grade 2 invasive ductal cancer in the right breast, positive for oestrogen and progesterone. I had a full mastectomy with lymph node clearance, then chemotherapy, radiotherapy and have recently started Tamoxifen. Just before the end of radiotherapy I was diagnosed with lymphoedema too which was, well, disappointing?! Looking forward to meeting you all x
Hi, my name’s Ali. I was diagnosed in Nov 18 with IDC HER 2 positive in my left breast and lymph node. I’ve had chemo followed by wide local excision and lymph node clearance. Currently recovering from that ahead of radiotherapy.
I’m coming up from Taunton by train. Feels like quite an expedition and the furthest I’ve been since treatment started!
Looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow.
