Morning ladies , hope everyone is doing well .
Does anyone know when you can go back to wearing an underwired bra after a lumpectomy & SLNB ?
In 3 weeks ( on Monday) post op and wondering if its ok to start wearing them again x

Hey @butterflywing
All good here, hope you’re doing well too! ![]()
I don’t think there’s a one size fits all approach to this (pun intended!) as it probably depends on the level of support you need and where your affected areas are.
For me, I’ve not been able to wear an underwired bra due to the position of my incision so I got some bralettes from M&S, which act kind of like a low level sports bra and, as I have little boobs, they offer the right amount of support for me, are very comfortable with no having to readjust or fiddle with them during the day, and they look amazing. In fact, as soon as I tried them on, I couldn’t believe I’d not tried this style years ago!
Your dedicated BCN might be the best place to go for advice on this from the point of view of whether going with underwired will impact your healing, however always great to get ideas on here too of course and I hope you find what works for you. x
Hi ! Good to hear from you ![]()
I definitely need some good support in the boob area ![]()
.
Might have a look for some more non wired bras for the time being rather than going back to underwired . It’s an excuse to go shopping at least! ![]()
Hope your doing well and life is being kind xx
I was wearing my usual underwired bra around three weeks and daily ever since. I can’t remember exactly but was definitely wearing them by results appointment which was four weeks after surgery. As has already been said it will depend on what feels comfortable for you. x
Yeah, have some fun experimenting, mix it up! ![]()
As for life being kind, being back at work has been a bit of a shock to the system after having a month off and all I do is mostly sit around not really doing much of anything. ![]()
Hi @butterflywing I think it was about 3 weeks when I went back to a normal bra also. I got rid of my wired bras years ago though so I didnt have to worry about anything digging in me. It felt very strange putting a bra back on! Almost too normal haha
Put one on and see how it feels for you ![]()
I’ve been wearing non wired bra everyday since surgery but I’m ready for a bit of normality now and to go back to my nicer wired ones . I may give one ago tomorrow
.
Hope all is good with you , amazing news about your results ! xx
Thankyou I may try one tomorrow and see how I get on .
My non wired one is rubbing my SLNB scar and I don’t really want to buy any more non wired ones as they aren’t supportive enough ![]()
Will give the underwire ones a try and hope for the best
xx
Hi, after my lumpectomy last September I found it too uncomfortable to wear an underwired bra so bought wireless and even removed the wires from my newest good ones. I also still sleep in a soft and comfy sports type bra. I still carry out the breast exercises and regular exercises to avoid Lymphodemia after having 3 lymph nodes removed. I use Nyvia Soft moisturising cream under my bust & around under arm & lymph node area.I’m in Tenerife right now, sitting out on the patio after applying factor 50 sun tan lotion but wearing shorts and cotton top, staring at the pool ( that is for cold water swimmers anyway)
worrying about sitting in the sun so trying to keep reasonably covered up.
All in all my surgery went really well and I got the all clear from stage 2 breast cancer and cannot thank Dr. Wabeena Hamilton- Burke and the whole team Debbie and the Macmillon nurses, day surgery team at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary including my consultant and the anaethetist who promised to wake me up gently with tea & toast
forget that he’s lovely, I had no hesitations with him waking me up, ![]()
I now take Letrazone for the next 5 years and will no longer dread having my next mammagram and no longer care if my boobs look like naan breads.
I still have a pulse !!
Try not to overthink everything and use your BC care nurses they’re behind you all the way!!
