Bra help?

Hello everyone

Since my lumpectomy in July 2024, and six months before then tbh, I have had very real pain and problems underarm. I have an F cup but they are heavy. Since the surgery, the pain has been worse both in my breast and underarm. Thing is, I can’t wear a bra anymore. I used to always wear underwired, it’s the only thing that would keep them where they should be. I think I had worn the wrong size for a very long time resulting in damage to my ribs and underarm tissues. I have neuropathy too from fibromyalgia and my particular specialism is ultra skin sensitivity. I can’t wear a back closing bra, but I can’t find an adequate front loader either. So I have worn those elasticated crop top bras which offer no support whatsoever and I think thats made my problem and pain worse.

Can your boobs actually collapse? Mine feels like it’s all over the place.

Anyway, does anyone know of a custom bra maker, like the crop top ones but with stronger support for bigger boobs?

Thanks Amanda

Have a look at M&S post surgery range. I’m 36G and although I only had lumpectomy I found these bras very comfortable. I too used to wear on,y underwire but can really to,state them now.

Hi @amandrose

Bras are a right pain - literally.

I’ve a few of these - not wired, front and back opening, soft, full cup for big boobs (though I’ve only 1 now) and give a decent shape. https://www.amoena.com/uk-en/pocketed-lingerie/mara-non-wired-padded-front-closure-bra-sand-44741/

Also see if Asda are doing their zip up sport bra - they are supportive and comfy, giving a decent shape.

Good luck!

I’m currently on a quest for bras with a very deep side to give me more support as my operated side has changed shape and needs that extra support. Why are sports bras rarely in shades of beige? :woman_shrugging:

Thank you, good price too. But have back fastening and thin straps. Mine are so heavy I need scaffolding! I think I need compression vests but not too restricting, just a bit more supporting than elastic crop tops.

Nope, tried on about 20 of theirs and couldn’t get on with any of them, thin straps, wrong shape etc. but thanks for the suggestion

Hi Amanda

Have you tried any proper sports bras, not the supermarket ones, but ones designed for running? Nike do some great zip front ones which because of what they are designed for hold everything snugly in place and I found the compression after lumpectomy really comforting. Shock Absorber also do some good front fastening ones. They tend to have much wider and often adjustable shoulder straps so can lift and hold everything up! Not the prettiest underwear, but definitely do the job. x

I had a bilateral lumectomy and wear M&S Total Support non wired. I was to,d by the lymphoedema nurse to try and get some bras that were wider at the side as I had some swelling. I bought the M&S front fastening sports bra which is patterned so not great under light coloured clothes.

I have found these:

These seem to have lots of ladies with large boobs modelling for them.

Hope the links help

Thank you I will check these out. I’ve resorted to wearing 2 crop top bras now which is slightly more supportive and pain has eased. But thanks for these links. All so expensive though, you can’t just have one :disappointed_relieved:

Yes I’ve looked but not tried. As I said before all so expensive when you need several. I’ll look in Very catalogue then I don’t have to pay all at once. Thank you for the suggestion

Yes I know. If you have had breast cancer and buy a specific post surgery bra you can get it VAT free. But on others bras it’s not applicable which doesn’t seem fair.

I’ve found sports bras best for support.
I too wear a crop top at night, but only then, as I need more support during the day being an E/F cup - it varies.
I have a very comfortable front fastening bra from M&S, but it has a front zip, which means a heavy seam down the middle on either side , that can result in a deep ridge forming due to increased lymph in breast skin that makes it thick loke orange-peel
I have yet to attain my ideal bra, which would be a seamless crop top sports bra thats made for specific sized boobs, wheras mostly, thay are sold in dress sizes in that style which is never going to work for a size 12, but E/F cup. I get annoyed by any bra thats sold by dress size, have never had use for them.
