Bra size? Told today it's cancer

So just told I have breast cancer but need biopsy results for details. Still kinda numb. But wondering why breast cancer support nurse wanted to know my bra size…? I know, strange thing to focus on, but what do the size of my boobs have to do with anything?

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was asked this - and whilst I’m still not sure I think it a) has an affect on their measurements from the scans and b) forms part of the decision making as to whether you’ll have a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. I could be entirely wrong & hope someone who actually knows will clarify but this was my understanding on it

Thank you, that makes sense.

Also in case they need to order a softy for you . Mine didn’t do this but I have heard other forum users say that their BCN service provided them with a free post - surgery bra .

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis - but be assured that no question is too small or too daft . The Nurses are available on the helpline tomorrow if you want to talk everything through or you can post questions and the rest of us are around when they can’t be . Sending hugs xx

Hi. New to this forum, and this is my first reply/post - hope I’m doing it right!
I’m at a different stage to you, having already had my lumpectomy and am now preparing for radiotherapy, and at my appointment for the latter, my Oncologist asked me my bra size, which puzzled me too. So I asked him why he needed to know, and he explained that for RT, ladies with larger breasts are sometimes asked to wear a bra to their RT sessions to hold their boobs in place. I know we’re at different stages of our journeys but maybe they asked you for future reference.

Thank you all. You’re being so kind and helpful and welcoming. And CJ_bts, thank you for taking that leap and posting. So many ways my bra size can matter, wow…! I’m still trying to absorb everything… It feels so unreal but so terrifyingly real at the same time. Looking through the leaflets they gave me to take away and there’s so much to think about but so much is unknown still… They said to expect surgery, either excision or mastectomy, and even that is a lot to take in, and that’s the first little bit.

I didn’t expect this when I woke up this morning.

Hi I had breast cancer and they give you a bra If have surgery you have to wear like a granny bra type for the first few weeks. Since having surgery I don’t wear bras though. X good luck with results x

Hi
I was asked the same and I also wondered why, somebody told me it was to do with the decision between lumpectomy or mastectomy. I had ductal invasive and had lumpectomy and was told there would be no benefit in having mastectomy…
Had radiotherapy post surgery and tamoxifen.
