Hi everyone,
I’ve seen lots on here about switching brands of Letrozole due to side effects.
I’m really struggling with my Letrozole. I have tried different AIs but Letrozole gave me less side effects (although these size effects are still significant and are impacting my quality of life). I will ask my GP to specify a different brand on my prescription but I’m not sure which brand to try next. Currently on Accord and the joint pain is unbearable at times. I get anxiety attacks, migraine, nausea etc.
My question is what brand do I ask for or should I just go with what the pharmacy get for me to try? I have read it’s not always that easy to change brand. Which brands have you tried and how did you get on with them?
Currently on letrozole for 5 years, 1 year in so far. I have had amorax and sun pharma. To begin with it was always amorax and I had painful joints especially in my fingers. My current tablets are sun pharma and my joints feel much better. There was an issue with obtaining any letrozole in my area a couple of months ago, so I was given femara, which is so much more expensive! As it turned out a different pharmacy got hold of some amorax so I didn’t take the femara. I tend to take what my pharmacy gives me, but would say sun pharma seems to suit me better.
Thank you!
Will ask for Sun Pharma next and see how I go although I think it may be a case of which brands are available as you say. It’s just good to hear that the brand can make a difference so hoping I can get some improvement. I’ve done 2 years swapping from Tamoxifen to various AIs. Got 8 more years on this so I need to try at least to see if I can get some improvement. Glad to hear the switch worked for you.
Hey Walkies, I agree what the other person . I am on letrozole 1 1/2 years . The sun pharma to me is better also as far as side effects . I take mine at night because at first it makes me tired . I had a lot of stomach issues on it . My doctor said I could come off of it for 2 weeks to see if my stomach improved and I did . They were talking about switching me to another one but I didn’t personally want to introduce another form of estrogen blocker for my body to get use to again . When I first wake up I feel some aches and pains but after moving it gets better and leaves . I’ve taken all the brands of it and it is a difference .good luck
I was on different brands of Tamoxifen with no issues, and I did wonder if some people were just more sensitive to the drugs than others. I’m on Exemstane now, one of my last prescriptions I was given “Morningside” for the first time……and did I suffer!
The thing that surprises me, when I mentioned this “brand” issue to the pharmacist - they looked at me as thou I was stupid and making it up. There are so many on this forum with the same issues how can they not be aware of it.
Thank you.
I got a similar response from my local pharmacist. She said she wouldn’t change my brand due to the cost of the other brands but one brand shouldn’t be any better than another!
I’m with an online pharmacy now so hope they are a little more helpful and I’ll get my go to specify the brand for me.
