Not posted on this part of the forum yet but have been reading lots and finding lots of help so thank you all ;-)
I had a lumpectomy Tuesday last week and had dressings removed yesterday. My Mum brought me two sports bras from Asda which I have worn a few times and are comfortable. I noticed today that the edge of the bra under my arm is sitting right on the scar of the SNB site. Although it is healing well and is not being rubbed by the seam at present I’m concerned that it might. My boob feels a lot more comfortable when it’s supported in the bra so really want to carry on wearing it when I can, maybe even at night, but worried this might affect the scar.
Just wondered if anyone else had any experince of this and what kind of bras worked for you all? Thought about putting a dressing over the scar maybe when I’ve got a bra on but then will this slow the healing down?!!
Aaah sorry so many questions, such a learning curve all this isn’t it!!!
Hi Julie I have worn the sports bras from asda since my lumpectomy in May , I have just finished radiotherapy they are soft compy and wash well . At first I couldn’t wait to go back to wearing my under wired bras , but now comfort wins hands down . The only problem I had with SNB area was pain but no rubbing . I also got cellulitus in my boob and still managed to wear the bras . Good old Asda . Hope all goes well for your treatment take care Julie x
Thank you for your replies and advice much appreciated :smileywink:
Might try and sleep in the sports bra tonight to see if I’m more comfortable with some support, has anyone else tried that? Need to get some more sleep somehow :smileyfrustrated:
Thank you will have a look at that bra :smileyhappy:
Well I did sleep in my bra last night and it really helped, 5 1/2 hours in one go and managed to sleep on my non poorly side too! :smileyvery-happy: Feeling much better for it today, much less sore, but trying not to go mad with this bit of extra energy!!!
SNB scar ok but end of WLI scar is teeny bit red looking, so will try and cover that with something. Like the idea of the make up pads, just wandering if anyone had tried nursing breast pads to protect the scar or if you think they are a good idea? My scar is quite long so no dressing I have will cover it!
I did just gently dabbed the scars with warm water today, they hardly got wet so was probably not worth it ha ha. Not brave enough to shower it yet, such a baby!!
Have had a make up remover pad on the offending part today which helped and hubby went out tonight to good old Asda again and got me some nursing breast pads (never thought I’d be using them ever again!) as they are a bit bigger and seem to be helping cushion it a bit more. Will let you know how I get on.
Hi Julie, I took my dressings off after a 5 days so I Could shower properly, I didn’t wear a bra in the house just a tight vest top but covered scar with an adhesive dressing if I went out so Could wear a soft sports bra , I lived in them for a few months but am now back in normal bras with no issues xx
Definately need something to cushion the scar when wearing a bra eh! Well I do anyhow! But if I’ve learnt anything from reading this site everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another, some may not need too, but hoping any info I post may help others, as they have helped me :smileywink:
All the adhesive dressings I had in the house weren’t big enough so have gone with the nursing breast pad option tonight in the hope that in conjunction with the bra It’ll help with the sleeping issue!!!
Hi Julie, I am having the same problem. I have had same as you week and a half ago and just can’t get comfortable in a bra even though its not under wired. I did get limited comfort from a supportive tankini top from M&S which has an elasticated section under the top itself. I also noticed a sign in my local M&S in Cheshunt, Herts that they do bra fittings and bras for what I’m sure was post breast surgery (when I was buying a bra pre diagnosis!) so ill be trying them out soon. I’ll let you know how this goes but I have so much swelling that I’m in too much pain to even go there at the moment. Hope you find something suitable, kind regards, Kate x
I bought MACOM Signature bras and have been delighted with them. Front fastening with two rows of hook and eye. The cups are expandable so you buy according to measurement eg 38 not cups size. As no seams they don’t dig into scar lines etc.
I have substantial incisions and these bras have been amazingly comfortable. I have to wear day and night for 8 -12 weeks minimum so wanted comfort.
When I went back to see PS he was pretty impressed with them ( and the bras too! ) sorry poor humor but need a bit of fun as has been a very long 5 weeks!
When I was discharged the expandable cups meant I could pad with dressings to protect the incisions.
I bought them direct online, not cheap but not ridiculous either, probably some discount codes if you Google them x
Hi all
I had a TM and SNB on 2nd December. I also have to wear a bra 24/7 for 6 weeks. I asked at my hospital if I could buy another bra the same as the one I had been fitted with after surgery. It was a definite no. I asked my BCN and she showed me a few examples but said they weren’t really suitable for wearing after mammoplasty. Thank goodness for all the help and support of the ladies on this forum. I went onto Amazon and searched for front fastening bras and found a number of suitable ones in different colours (my hospital one is black, restricting my choice of tops) and prices. I managed to get a flesh coloured which is really comfy. The big advantage for me was to beable to get a bra which stretches from a b to g cup. Excellent for fitting my “little and large”.
I to have had some issues with my SNB wound. Luckily I have the most incredible husband. He carefully put a dressing to form a ridge between my bra and the wound. This really helped, just had it there for 2 days. The wound is healing but is probably more painful and uncomfortable than the other wounds.
Each day I am trying to do more and reclaim normality. 90% of time ok bit still have a wobble now and then. Having to wait until new year for my path results after surgery but determined to put to the back of my mind and enjoy Christmas and new year festivities.
Thank you ladies out there , there are times, usually early hours of the morning, when reading this forum gives me the strength and much needed help to face the challenges we all face.
Thank you
Hi Leslie, I’m having a lumpectomy next week & I went online & got a couple of bras suggested for after breast surgery - they come in several sizes small, medium etc. They are on Amazon. Obviously I can’t say if they work or not yet but I have tried them on and they feel comfortable, so I’m hoping they work. They are front Velcro fastening to make them easier. Anita x
M and S do a brilliant range of non wired bras which look like full cup underwired ones. Dead comfy had my surgery a year ago. I was told not to wear a bra by my team going through radiotherapy as the friction against already delicate skin is not good. I ‘hung loose’ as it were!!! I’m only a 34b anyway but found my skin was fine with rads and no bra. Just wore vest type tops. Xxxx
After much trying, Internet surfing I have gone with the m&s post surgery softy bra and it seems to give good support (as good as can be expected without a wire!!). Not sure what I will do when the swelling fully settles with one boob bigger than he other but will cross that one then
Butterfly, yes the surgeon said he will do reduction /uplift when everthing settled. The aesthetic result is really good but I think I will need something at the bottom of the cup in the interim and looking at it now think I would like an implant never wanted big boobs but was happy with the 34 dd, ?.
I would also agree that debenhams are good for bras I but my local store didn’t stock the spirit range or cotton non wired in dd so went for the m&s as i thought I was going straight to rads at the time but they are very comfy.
Thank you everyone for the advice. I went out with my mum yesterday and managed to get a bra from M&S. I have also ordered some sports bras to sleep in from ASDA to try.
Once i I have had the op and things have settled down I will look at the Debenhams ones.
Thank you again! I was starting to think I would never find any!
