Bra's and prosthetic after mastectomy

Hi, I had a mastectomy earlier this year and the wound took a long time to heal. I am now healed but struggling with feeling comfortable wearing a prosthesis. I have one issued by the NHS which feels quite heavy and I bought one from M &S which is lighter. I want to be able to wear a bra again comfortably, the remaining boob could do with some support! Has anyone found a comfortable bra and prosthetic that doesn’t require a small mortgage? I am wearing a 36b but going for a proper fitting next week to check that I am wearing the correct size.

Thank you

Hi, I use Knitted Knockers which are very light and easy to use. If you go to the website you can order two free ones, and there is also a knitting pattern if you are any good at knitting. The website is Knitted Knockers Home | Knitted Knockers official page | Knit Prosthetics for Breast Cancer Survivors | Barbara Demorest Hope that helps

Hello @jillh28

Try a full cup bra. Someone on this forum suggested them to me a couple of years ago and I have not looked back. A full cup holds your prosthetic in place better than any pocketed bra (I do use the M&S covers and have others from Amazon and even made my own). I wear underwired bras to give me a nice shape. I am a 40D.

Primark does a prosthetic for £6 (I think - thereabouts anyway). I have used them for the gym and occasionally for days when I don’t go out. The XL isn’t heavy enough for me but I bet they’d be great for a smaller bust. They are slightly triangular. They work a treat in mastectomy swimwear.

Good luck finding what works for you.
