Bras

I know this may seem a bit trivial but I’m having trouble finding a good bra. I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and go for surgery later this month, but my consultant tells me off for the type of bra I wear. Does anyone have this problem and does anyone have any ideas where I can find a good, supportive and well fitting bra without it costing me a fortune?

George at Asda has got a good post surgery bra, £8. I ordered my front opening soft bra to wear straight after the op from amoena uk online. They are vat exempt. All the best. Tina

As I had a (WLE) lumpectomy, I wanted something with moulded cups and found M&S normal non-wired T-shirt bras are comfortable and from the outside you would never know I had had surgery. M&S also do some post-surgery bras.

You can see the full range on their website, as stores don’t always carry them all. I order mine on-line and collect from the store.

My BCN recommended Marks and Spencer Maximum support range for immediately post-op, and the non-underwired Total Support range. They all cost less than £20 and I found that I managed fine with three following my WLE, though bought a couple more when I had MX and recon as need them for longer.

Thanks everyone, will have a good look

I too got told my bras were not the right ones, and Macmillan Nurse recommended M&S do good non wired bras.
Once I had got over my op and I could put my left arm above my head more easily I got a good sports bra which I found to be very good.

Hope you get yourself sorted.

i wear crop top vests. Theyre like vests but finish just under the bust. My bcn said they are fine.

Hi Dahabiani
Had my surgery last Thursday got a berli shock absorber bra and friend bought me 2 asda sport bras all been soft and ok. Came back from theatre and they had put bra on me. Had sutures out and now need something soft seamless on the cup and have had to cut under arm so bra does not cut into scar from the sentinel node biopsy.
Hope all goes well if your anything like me still can’t take it all in all happened so quick.
Good luck

Hi ALL,
I too got post op bras from M@S, also Nicola Jane and a web based company called ’ all about the Girl’. I was advised to get med to full support bras, full cuped ,non wired for immediate post op. I am now 3mths post op and am wearing underwired again. If you need a larger then D cup searching via the net is probably your easiest option although M@s do have larger cup sizes at resonable prices and I have found them to be very comfortable, holding my prothsis well in place with minimal ‘fall foreward’ Hope this is of help.P.S.if you buy on line from M@S MXT. range, VAT is deducted at source and at the moment they are giving free postage-they were last night. Good luck and hope all goes well.

Hi All,
I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who’s a GG cup and managed to find a post op or non wire bra? I’m getting very frustrated. Had my op on the 19th. Managed to find a non wire bra in M&S but only a G cup, so not terribly comfy on the bust. My underwire bras are very uncomfortable under the arm. I’ve tried removing the wire from one but its not great. There seems to be a real lack in larger sizes!

Hi Blueyegirl,

I’m a 34GG but after speaking to my BCN she advised me to go a size bigger because of swelling. So I ended up getting a 36G I bought one from Bravissimo a ‘sadie soft cup by royce’ and an’Emma Jane maternity bra’ from Figleaves. Both were about £20 and very comfortable. It’s never easy getting bras for us larger girls!!

HTH
