Mx March 22, AC Chemo started 16th April, loosing hair and starting to consider swimwear for summer. Am I ready to start braving the wigs, shaving off my hair which is starting to fall off in clumps and redefine our swim wear wardrobe? Its happening so fast. Anyone else thinking the same as me. xxx ps does the ice cap really work I have done it now for 2 sessions and now its going anyway and I just feel like a coward for not being brave enough to facing the hair loss
Hi Ruth
Whilst you wait for other users to reply you may find our hair loss and breast cancer publication helpful to read, you can read or download it via this link:
The back of the booklet contains information about further support you may wish to access, including the headstrong programme which is a free advisory service run by professionally trained volunteers who can offer you information and support on hair loss due to cancer treatments.
Take care
Lucy
Hi Ruth,
I was diagnosed in Oct 09 and lost my hair within 3 wks of starting chemo.
I’m sorry I can’t comment on the cold cap but having seen some other comments on here it can work.
I knew nothing about the cold cap when I was diagnosed so I never tried it. I did get my hair cut short in prep for the hair loss but absolutely hated it. Within a week my hair started coming out and I asked my hairdresser to shave it off, only to a No 4, and I have to say it was both the scariest but best thing I ever did. I have a wig that I do love, (see my profile pic) but I never wear it in the house. I then shaved my own head, to a No 1 when my hair started appearing on my pillow!!! I have to say it felt fantastic to take control. I felt like - if I’m going to loose my hair it will be by my own hand and when I choose not when the chemo decided.
Since then I lost all my hair but I finished my Epirubican part of my chemo several weeks ago, and I’m now onto CMF and my hair is growing back. It’s alot thicker and a different colour and I did have a patch of grey but that appears to have gone, touch wood.
It is scary and horrible but you need to do what’s best for you. A good wig is half the battle, I tried something completely different, and a different colour and I think that helped.
I hope it all works out for you, and if you have any questions or just want to chat just message me.
Take care of you, luv Jo xoxo
