Hi - just looking for advice off anyone in a similar situation really…
We have quite a lot of cancer in both sides of family and my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 42 (2 years ago) - she had a different type of cancer in each breast which is rare. Thankfully she’s through all the treatment now and is clear. She has just had genes testing and found out she has BRCA 2 gene. I’ve just given a blood sample today for testing and I’ve been told is a 50/50 chance il have the gene too.
I’m worried, scarred and over the years developed health anxiety due to the family history.
I’m pretty convinced il have the gene so I guess I’m asking - what can I expect? What’s a preventative double mastectomy like?
Hello… that’s a hard question to answer really but one thing to say is that however hard and long the journey is, promise you will be OK at end of it. The fear and anticipation is the worst part, just do the research, join Facebook forums as they’re great, and ask any and all questions. … no question is silly or not important in this situation!
Good luck and much love xxx

Gemma had a family history of cancer too, she went through genetic testing and had a preventative mastectomy. She supports people over email who are in a similar position to you.
