Hi everyone I’m new to the forum I’m 25 and found out I’m brca2 positive so I’m awaiting a double mastectomy and was wondering what the recovery period would be like and how long will it be befor I’m back to work as I’m a chef manager so my job is full on heavy lifting reaching high places ect.
Hiya, so sorry you are going through it at such a young age but welcome :-). I’m BRCA2 also and have had double mastectomy with implant reconstruction in Sept, but also had a lumpectomy on the left side in June. It took me a couple of months to feel healed enough on the inside to start exercising again, I went swimming about 8 weeks after and it was a brilliant way to stretch the chest. I didn’t go back to work until 4th Jan but am now back in the swing doing my regular duties within the office so not as strenuous as your job.
In answer to your question, it would depend on what type of reconstruction you are having, if any as I believe my type is the quickest for healing.
Do you have a surgery date yet? Feel free to message again if you want any other info. Regards Suzie x

An effective exercise program for fighting breast cancer has three components:
An aerobic workout that pumps up your heart rate. Examples include brisk walking (outdoors or on a treadmill), jogging, swimming, or bicycling.
Strength training to tone and build muscles. This includes lifting weights or working with a machine circuit or resistance bands. (Be sure to get instruction if you’re new to this type of exercise; light weights are sufficient to maintain strength.)
Stretching to keep muscles and joints limber.
Hi, I’m new to this forum malarkey so I’m not quite sure if I’m posting on the correct thread/place/area.
I’m due to have my prevention double mastectomy operation at the end of the month and I’m having implants but I’m feeling a little nervous.
My question is, how quick were people on the mend afterwards?
I have two young children and I am worried about the recovery and not being able to be mum/operate as normal with them. They know I’m having an operation but they are too young to know what that entails.
How long were people off work?
I only work 3 days but it’s a very physical job and I need to be physically fit to do it but don’t want to push things too soon.
Any advice (other than drain bags which I have - great idea) would be helpful
Thank you in advance
