Has anyone tested positive for the BRCA1 gene,?? if so do you know what type of breast cancer/ tumour you had. I was diagnosed ten years ago with a medullery in the right breast, and have since read that medullary seems to effect people with the BRCA1 gene. I developed a lump the other day in my left breast (what a bummer) i have an appointment already to see what is going on, like every one has said its the waiting game all the time its a nightmare. ta very much for reading this post. x

Hi I am now into my fourth year from having triple negative cancer, with all this in the news about angelina jolie it has got me wondering would I have been screened for this faulty gene automatically after diagnosis I have a feeling I wasn’t my mother died from ovarian cancer infact all of her siblings except 1 have died from cancer of some sort, should I persue this futher ?
Hello belfo21,
The short answer to your question is hell yes, course you should. Things to take into consideration are the types of cancer that your maternal relatives have died from. If they were female and any died from ovarian or breast cancer, or if they were male and any died for prostate or breast cancer, then it’s def no brainer. Hopefully it’ll come back negative, but it’s always worth getting it done! X
