BRCA1 Test Results Today
BRCA1 Test Results Today Hi - I just wanted to let you know that I get my results at lunchtime today - so does my twin sister. They managed to co-ordinate our blood tests so we’d get them at the same time even though we live in different cities.
Fingers crossed!
Bev.

The wait is awful - I hope you’re feeling OK today.

Well, unfortunately both mine and my sister’s tests came back positive. So, now we start fully exploring treatment/screening options. I think both of us are keen for preventative surgery, but there’s so much to consider isn’t there?
Any advice much appreciated!
Bev.

Hi Bev So sorry to hear both you and your sister tested positive. I hope you’re feeling OK today.
I think the best advice I can give you right now is not to make any decisions for now. Give it time to sink in, then see if you can talk it all through with a councellor.
Please get in touch if you want to chat about things - you can contact me personally on the other site.
All the best

Hi Sue & Helen
Well, it’s taken a couple of days to sink in, but I think I’m ok. Both of us seem to be coping ok so far. I’m sorry about your sister Helen - is there much age difference between you two? How is she doing? I sometimes think dealing with other people’s bad news is harder than your own. We have another much younger sister and an older brother who have yet to test. I will be gutted if my younger sister has it, she’s been through so much. I hope that she can learn from our experiences.
Sue - how are you doing since your op?
Bev.

Hi Bev & Helen Been offline for a few days - moving house. Finally getting sorted though and nice to have my computer back online!
Bev - glad to hear you’re doing OK. I think any result is better than waiting and not knowing. At least now you can start thinking about what to do, but not rush into anything too. I was lucky - my sister tested normal for BRCA1 and I was so relieved - I don’t know how I would have coped with her having the faulty gene too.
Just remember to talk to as many people as you can about your options, and make sure you push and get exactly what you want. Two of my cousins tested negative for BRCA1 without a cancer diagnosis first. They’ve both had all of the preventative surgery possible and now feel absolutely great knowing they’ve done all they can to be low risk.
I’m doing really well at the moment - my hot flushes even seem to be getting less. I’m absolutely fine after my bilateral reconstruction - just need to go into hospital again in 3 weeks for nipple reconstruction and a bit of a tidy up. Can’t wait until that’s done and I can put it behind me.
Helen - how are you and your sister getting on? It hasn’t been that long since you found out about BRCA2 yourself - are you coping OK?
Lots of love
Sue

Hi Bev & Helen Hi Helen
Hope you had a good holiday. Glad to hear your sister’s doing well after hearing about BRCA2. Sorry to har about your other sister though - it’s going to be a worrying time for all of you until she hears more. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything’s OK with her - please let us know how she gets on.
Bev - hope you’re still OK now that you’ve had time to let your results sink in. Hope you’ve had the chance to talk it over with your sister - I’m sure you’ll be good support for each other.
My house move went really well - love the new place. Still surprised I managed to get a mortgage no problem after my BRCA1 diagnosis, but thankfully it wasn’t an issue.
I have my pre-op on Thursday for my next op (and hopefully the last one). I’m going in for nipple reconstruction, and to have an area of scarring fixed on my back where I had a slight infection after my reconstruction. The plastic surgeon thinks he’ll be able to get rid of the scarring quite easily so I’m pleased about that. It’s another general anaesthetic but at least that will be it then.
Hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine,
Love
Sue
