I wondered if anyone could help assure me please…I’ll try to keep this brief but the history is as follows…
2009 diagnosed with Breast Cancer, had surgery, chemo & radiotherapy and Tamifen for 6 years. I was forewarned at the time that they could cause cancer of the uterus.
Fast forward to 18 months ago, I had a US scan as had an emergency appendectomy, they picked up that the lining of my uterus was thicker than it should be 8mm when it should be 4mm. I stopped the Tamoxifen immediately and I was assured by the hospital that there was nothing to worry about.
I wanted to go back on the pills so have been checked out, had a intervaginal Ultrasound and was advised the lining had reduced to 6mm, so felt somewhat reassured that there was nothing untoward going on.five days later I started bleeding heavily with the most excruciating stomach cramps. I’ve had to go to my GP’s to get tablets to stop the excessive bleeding. Last bleed was 8 1/2 yrs ago!
Obviously I’m worry myself silly, I called the consultants secretary to see if they had got the results but she said she was t allowed to tell me anything when I asked if if they could see anything. I was hoping to hear that there were fibroids or something relatively innocent rather than cancer.
She tried to reassure me by saying if anything had been of concern they would have contacted me by now, but that they will be arranging a hysteroscopy as a matter of procedure to ensure everything is well and benign.
I’m worried silly now, does anyone have any experience they could share to help reassure me in some way?
Thank you
stellam
I know you have posted on the secondary thread and I am a primary bc lady but I wanted to reply to you as I am going through something similar to you.
I have been on tamoxifen for 18 months now and I had a very slight bleed 4 weeks ago, went to my GP the next day who did a fast track referral to have an intravaginal scan, not because she thought it was womb cancer but because I was on tomaxifen she wanted it checked out and this was the quickest way to do it. I had it and as a result of that they reported that the lining of the womb is thickened. I was then sent to have a hysteroscopy last Wednesday, The consultant said to me that he is confident that it is as a result of the tamoxifen and nothing sinister. The last time i had a period was 7 years ago.
Unfortunately as a result of an op I had 30 years ago he was not able to do it as it would have caused me too much discomfort so I am having it done under a general aneasthetic and am waiting a date for it.
THe main thing he said to me was that he was doing the hysteroscopy as a matter of procedure as it is something that they do as a matter of course however he was not expecting it to be anything else and that I would probably need to have my meds changed, which is what my oncologist told me as well, and he was not concerned about the bleed, the first thing he said was that it was the tamoxifen causing the lining of the womb to thicken.
I hope this helps

Hi stellam I was diagnosed in 2008 and after 5 years of tamoxifen I was put on letrazole. Shortly after I started bleeding and was sent for a scan which showed thickening of the lining of the womb and a pesky simple cyst near my Overy. I was then sent for a hysteroscapy. The results from that were ok and the Dr said that at 7mm the lining wasn’t that thick. The simple cyst was left alone. Depending on whether you have gone through the menopause the bleed could just be a period after stopping tamoxifen. All the best xx
