Hi I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago and had a single mastectomy followed by 5 years taking anastrazole which I am still taking. I have had a blood test and on the bone profile it shows I have a raised Serum Alkaline Phosphatase reading of 173. (Was 185 last March but that showed under Liver profile as no bone profile was done). My liver profile this time looks fine. I am petrified that this could mean metastasis to the bones! (Looked on internet,I know `I shouldn’t but did). Has anyone else had this? Could anastrazole cause this high reading even though not showing on liver profile now? Any help/advice would be appreciated
As soon as I started endocrine therapy my ALP number started going up. One explanation is that your bone loss is increasing more than you are creating it. It appears to be that way for me because as soon as I started zolodrenic acid infusions it went back down. There are many of us who were concerned about rising levels that I’ve read on various breast cancer sites but only one came back for bone metastases and they had rising calcium levels also. Most of the time it appears to be linked to bone loss caused by menopause and endocrine therapy.
Thanks for your reply which is quite reassuring. My calcium levels are normal thankfully is just the ALP which is raised. I am seeing my gp on the 27th to discuss what is next. I am very reluctant to even think about stopping the anastrazole as I am half way through now (2,5 years)
When I started seeing mine rise I asked for zolodrenic acid infusions. Maybe they could try that and recheck in about 90 days and see if it went back down?
Yes hopefully. I will mention it to my gp on the the 27th. Thanks
