Hello. I’m newly diagnosed with breast cancer. I have also had rheumatoid arthritis for one year and have been on RA meds for 9 months. Does anyone else have experience of this who can offer advice please?
I am sorry that I have no experience of rheumatoid arthritis and any drug reactions you may have. There’s usually a leaflet with each medication stating all the potential adverse effects plus interactions.
As this is as long as War & Peace (a great novel by Tolstoy) it is not very often read, but give it a try! if not ask a breast care nurse to find out for you. Good luck

Hi there, only just seen this post . You’ve probably already had some surgery now. I have a ankylosing spondylitis a form of inflammatory arthritis (kind of in the same bucket as rheumatoid). I had been on a life-changing biologic for 3 years before being diagnosed with widespread DCIS. Had a mastectomy and implant reconstruction 6 years ago and whilst that was going on I had to stop the biologic medication I was on in case it affected the implant ‘taking”. I didn’t really experience any major downsides from this . I think I was probably distracted by the ongoing pandemic and the overall shock of the surgery. I probably had some bad days but it didn’t suddenly massively flare up and return to prebiologic levels. I resumed my biologic medication after a few months and all has been fine. Although now I’ve had some capsular contracture and have had to have the implant replaced. So I’m back off the biologic again for a short time. Hope it is all working out for you and that you got the answers that you needed.
Hello. I was diagnosed in Dec with breast cancer and had my mastectomy in January. I have been on arthritis meds for years - sulfasalazine & methotrexate. I’m now on Letrozole & Ribociclib for the cancer. Because I was already immuno suppressed from methotrexate then they started me on a low dose of Ribociclib (200mg). Because all my bloods have been ok, they just increased my dose to 400mg. My rheumatologist advised me to stop Sulfasalazine though. As of yet I have had no issues with taking both meds.
@louloub I’m also on sulfasalazine, Ribociclib and Exemestane. Do you know why they told you to stop the sulfasalazine? I’ve seen my rheumatologist once and not due again until October. Thanks xx
Hi sunshine-smile. As I was on the 2 meds for arthritis, sulfazalazine and methotrexate I was told to stop one or the other. I think it’s all to do with being immuno suppressed. My next appointment is September with my rheumatologist so I will discuss with him then. Sorry, not much help x
