Breast cancer found from breast reduction surgery

I’m going mad waiting for my appointment.

So I had breast reduction surgery 23/11 privately as my GP is worse that useless, struggled with back/neck ache for years, frustrated with being restricted on exercise was a 38KK.  As standard procedure my surgeon tested the tissue.  The lab report was send to the surgery on 5/12.  However I wasn’t informed till my 8 week appointment with consultant/surgeon, this was 20/1, I had open wounds on recovery till 14/1 so understand they didn’t inform me earlier to avoid the stress of knowing and not being able to do anything about it.  I requested a copy of the lab report.

Same day I contacted my GP, explained I needed urgent 2 week referral, couldn’t get seen till the Monday, they did the referral on Tuesday.  They send over the lab report to the hospital, so 2 weeks is today, the hospital can’t see me till 16/2, so the stress of not sleeping some, some days I am tearful, I am 46 with 2 kids so worried for the future.  To add to the complexities I finish my job on 17/2 and start a new on one 28/2.

So just shy of a month of knowing I have had cancer can I put what was found in lab report and if anyone had similar so I can try to get an feel for what the likely treatment(s) will be.

Both breasts had sections showing benign breast tissue with Mild Stromal Fibrosis.

The tumour was 5mm in right breast and showed suggestions of radical scar, so further immunohistochemistry was requested.  Atypia was not seen.

Immunohistochemistry shows the entrapped tubules lacking bascal cell markers consistent with a tiny focus on tubular carcinoma.  it si clear of the margins.

ER 8/8

PR 8/8

Her-2 negative.

I just want to have an idea of what is likely to be the treatment from what I can see probably 3 weeks radiotherapy then hormone treatment, but wondered if anyone had similar to me and didn’t need radiotherapy?

My surgeon/consultant didn’t seem to think I would need further surgery but I guess there is a risk of that.

It will be 1 day short of 5 weeks since confirmation of the cancer the hospital 2 week line won’t bring appointment forward, and have said I should get mammogram and MRI scan results on the day.

I’m trying to stay positive but my emotions last two days have got the better of me!

Anyone who has got this far and can give me some indication of what happened for them good or bad would be much appreciated.

Thanks

@barbs  hello sweets

I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through. I think my case is very similar so thought I would reach out to you.

My diagnosis was slightly different…  I was referred due to a lump which was only a cyst but my mammogram showed a 17mm tumour. I had a biopsy on that day and it was confirmed 2 weeks later just before Xmas.

My er and pr and her levels are exactly the same as yours.

I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago and it was confirmed this week that the op was successful and there was not spread.

I am meeting with oncology later and they are also saying 3 weeks radiotherapy and then hormone treatment. I assume yours would be similar.

I am OK with the thought of radio. Am more nervous about the hormone tablets… they will basically bring on menopause.

But I am taking each day as it comes. You obviously have so much going on with a job change and it is a lot to take in.

One positive I was told is that mine was the best BC I can hope for. Its not a nice thought but it could still be worse. I still can’t say the C word at all.

Hope this helps x
