Breast cancer index test

Has anyone in the UK had any luck with getting the Breast Cancer Index test done? It is available in the States and helps decide whether it is worth continuing with AIs after 5 years based on your tumour. Currently having to make this decision having thought I would only need to do 5 years on Letrozole but now the general guidance seems to be leaning towards 10 years. Thanks

I’m guessing that’s a no then :frowning: It’s so frustrating this test doesn’t seem to be available in the UK. We just seem to be left with the CTS5 calculator which isn’t personalised at all and just works on your age and tumour size. Bother!

Hi @annalouise

I’ve been told the exact opposite! My Health Board in Scotland have changed their recommendation from 10 years to 5 years. It doesn’t seem to take any account of the individual case, so I was interested to hear about the test available in the US. I will be allowed to continue for an extra year because I’m on the TRAK -er trial. I had a very large tumour with lymph node involvement, so although I’ll be happy to stop taking Letrozole, I’m also quite nervous about the change of advice.

Can anyone on the forum from the US tell us more about the Breast Cancer Index test?

Interesting! I think it is the trial in this link my oncologist is relying on: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(25)01013-X/fulltext

Yes would be good to hear if the test is used a lot in the US. Would definitely feel ‘happier’ continuing with Letrozole if I knew it was really likely to benefit me which I think is the point of the test.

Many thanks for the link @annalouise . Very interesting & it certainly suggests the extra 5 years on AI’s reduces the chance of recurrence, particularly if you had positive nodes. But on the other hand there was an increased incidence of bone fractures………

Yes it is the bone health that worries me most…..
