I have been diagnosed with grade 2 breast cancer I have my operation on the 3rd of May and I am petrified of having to be put to sleep I have asked to be sedated before I go down to theatre I am so scared
Welcome to the forum . I find that part really hard too.I’ve had quite alot of operations but it still scares me . I end up talking non stop to the nurse and anaesthetist to distract myself . Having sedation does help though and it’s over before you know it and you are back on the ward.
@Patann - welcome from me too. I’m sure at the moment you are feeling like you have been hit by a large truck that came out of nowhere. Try to take one day at a time if you can.
I’d also like to say I felt exactly the same as you and Jill, I think it’s a very normal fear. I even tried to unsign the consent form and run out of the theatre……but the lovely team calmed me down and talked me through everything. Don’t be afraid to tell your team how scared you are, they will be used to that and will be even more supportive.
Use this forum too to chat if that helps as everyone will understand how you feel, without judgment. You can also call the nursing team on the number you will find in orange at the top of the page on here - 08088006000.
Sending hugs and my very best wishes to you for your operation and recovery. Evie xx
Hope all went well with your surgery, I to was very scared before I had my surgery. It was soon over though. Let us know how you got on when you can.
