Breast Care Nurse Appointment Via Telephone

Hi

My mum has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

So every communication is new to me and feel anxious all the time.

Just got a message that a telephone appointment has been arranged with the breast care nurse.

What’s usually discussed over the phone. There was not much detail on the electronic letter.

Really appreciate if anyone can give an idea.

Thanks

Hi sshini93

Thank you for posting.

Many people contact us when their mum has been diagnosed with breast cancer. It can be difficult to know what to do or say or know how to cope so it’s understandably an anxious time for you both.

The breast care nurse may want to discuss your mum’s diagnosis and treatment plan during the telephone appointment. It’s often also a chance for you and your mum to ask questions. We’ve put together some of the questions you may want to ask the breast care nurse, as well as a guide to prepare for the appointment that you may find helpful.

You might want to talk to another adult about how you are feeling. Sharing our fears and worries with someone we know, and trust can really help us to feel better. Macmillan Cancer Support has information for people supporting someone with cancer. Also talking with others in a similar situation can help. You can do this through the discussion forums on our website.

We offer a range of free supportive services for anyone who has had a diagnosis of breast cancer which your mum may be interested in. They include face to face and online courses and events.

Both you and your mum can call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to additional support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks.

The number is 0808 800 6000. If you have hearing or speech difficulties prefix our number with 18001 and the call will go through Relay UK. Our helpline has access to telephone interpreters if language translation is required.

If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. Please complete this form ticking the box agreeing to a call back.

Our usual opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday.

We will be closed for the Easter bank holidays on Friday 18th and Monday 21st April 2025.

Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

We’re currently evaluating this service. If you’d like to provide feedback, please click the link to complete the survey . It should take approximately 10 minutes.

Best wishes
