I’ve had consistent pain/burning in my left breast since before Christmas. Saw GP who checked and couldn’t find any lumps so advised to leave it and see if it would go away. It didn’t after a month so GP referred to breast clinic who refused the referral and advised to use painkillers. Went to GP again given duration of pain. She referred to a different breast clinic at a different hospital. Received a letter today refusing the referral on the basis that breast pain isn’t of any concern so I should buy a better fitting bra, drink less caffeine and use anti inflammatory cream on the area. The pain is still very much present - I’m breastfeeding and don’t have my period back yet so it isn’t cyclical. It’s a constant gnawing, burning pain in one specific area which radiates to the nipple at times. Should I push for this again although not sure what my GP can do as I have received a letter direct from the breast specialist at the hospital but I definitely don’t feel reassured without being seen/scanned. Any advice welcome. Thanks.
Hi, I’m presuming the clinics are overrun due to covid delays so are very strictly triaging patients they see but to refuse to see you even for a routine examination ( not under the cancer referral route ) must be very frustrating . GPs only refer if they think a patient needs to be seen?? Maybe it’s time to kick up a fuss ? You could complain to PALS team at the hospital or to the head person at the Breast Clinic in writing ?
