Breast discomfort 3 years on

I had a lumpectomy in October 2021 for grade 2, 10mm, node negative ER6,PR4 cancer. Radiotherapy only. I stopped taking Tamoxifen after 8months due to side effects. I’m 70 years old.
I have discomfort in the breast, mostly in the evenings, it’s not really tender when pressed but more a dull ache. Feels as if it’s in the middle of the breast. My bra seems to feel tight by evening but even if I leave my bra undone it’s still achey.
I can’t decide if it’s something to worry about or due to the effects of radiotherapy, I do lots of arm movement, yoga , gardening.

What do you advise?
Thanks.

Hello SuzyK

So sorry you are feeling uncomfortable, after your surgery, I’m in the same place as you at the moment. I was so worried that I made an appointment at my breast clinic, who were outstanding arranging a mammogram and scan which I’m pleased to say came back clear.

My consultation, explained that the muscle goes to fat as we get older and this causes discomfort, they are going to see me again in 6 months. was wondering if you could get checked out to make sure all’s well.

Also the breast cancer nurses, are available on the site for a chat, they are extremely kind and understanding.

Wishing you well, health and happiness going forward.

Thanks, Tili, for that quick reply. That’s reassuring. I’ll contact the clinic.

Hi SuzyK,

Thanks for posting.

It’s understandable that you’re concerned about the discomfort and dull ache you’re experiencing in the breast in which you had your treatment for breast cancer.

As @Tili says there are changes which can happen over time which may be causing this to happen but as it is something new you’ve experienced it’s important to let your treatment team know. They will be able to properly assess you. You can contact your breast care nurse or treatment team if you are still under follow up or contact your GP who can refer you back to the breast clinic.
