Breast econstruction

Hi ladies I am in need of some more advise. I have mets in the liver which I have had from the start. Finished chemo now on going Petuzumab,Herceptin and Tamaxifen. I am 43 with a right breast mx. I would like to have reconstruction at some point in the future but I am unsure if this a good idea. I would like to give my body time to settle (hopefully chemo has done its job in the liver have scan soon) but would also like to just get it over and done with. Then I also think if I have further operations am I running the risk of encouraging the cancer to spread again. I haven’t spoken to my onc about this yet as have been busy getting on with treatment and consultant won’t do anything until chemo rads have finished and body has been rested. I would be grateful to hear if anyone has gone ahead with recon after mets dx.

Hi Elliedog,
We are very similar in our dx, except my mets are on my lungs, everything is being kept stable with a combination of herceptin (forever ) and tamoxifen. I also had a rhs mastectomy that was 2 years ago and recently have been contemplating having a recon. like you I have worries concerning reoccurrence and whether having the recon could in some way trigger it returning. I had a conversation with my breast surgeon earlier on this year on this very subject he told me that in his experience and opinion it could trigger a reoccurrence although he couldnt categorically state whether this would happen again its all down to how much risk we want to take with our bodies and again we are all individuals and react differently to treatments and surgeries I think as you are asking the same if not similar questions to the ones I posed that you are not 100% about the recon. I believe that you have to really want this. My BS told me that as I didn’t come in demanding a new breast I should go with my own feelings and at the time I’d decided not too go ahead with it. Having said all that and due to tamoxifen weight I now have some fat on my tummy that could be used in rebuilding a new breast (I wouldn’t want an implant). I will watch this thread with great interest. Wish I could help you out more xxx
