Do any of you have experience of having several implants put into breast after surgery and radiotherapy that keep having to be removed and replaced because of infection and hardening? I have just had my third implant removed and am left with empty breast which is so irritable especially when I wear a prosthesis. It is really uncomfortable and i am constantly aware of it rubbing. I am looking for tips on wearing a prosthesis and feeling that I can forget about it
Hi Sammy cat, I’m sorry to read you’re having such a difficult time. It is do frustrating when this is meant to help you get on with your life and move forward. I never really wore my prosthesis but some ladies have reported putting a silk scarf or cut up soft t shirt into their bra to stop the rubbing.
I always worried the prosthesis would fall out and ending up safety pinning it to my bra which was daft!
I had mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction which had to be removed 3 months later after second chemo as the wound wouldn’t heal. I was without implant for about 4/5 months until chemo finished then had an expander put in before rads. The expander was replaced with silicone implant about 6 months later. This was all September 2014 to spring 2016. It never felt right, I had problems with my pectoral muscle tearing. In September 2017 I had the implant removed and diep flap reconstruction. It needs a bit of tweaking because of the muscle but a much better shape and feel.
After my surgery I got some post surgery bras from M&S. Their fitting service was excellent and the bras are soft with a pocket for the prosthesis so it shouldn’t rub your tender skin.
I’m sure there will be more tips coming from other ladies with more expert gan me xx
Hi
Thanks for responding! I am going to try the silk scarf as that sounds logical. I like to do sport and play tennis but can’t concentrate because of the friction!!! Some new joy everyday with this condition! I have the M&S bras and they are better fitting than far more expensive ones I have bought from specialist companies.
I will probably go down the road of trying one more implant before I give up as having problem accepting a hole in my chest with empty breast!! Thansk again x
I too had to replace my implant. The second it too became hardened but I’ve had enough of surgeries and don’t want to go thru it again. I don’t have any infection so I’m just tolerating it!!
How do all the movie stars have implants and no problems I don’t know!!
