Breast implant

Hi, I’ve been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, had a lumpectomy, but after results have been told now I need a mastectomy, as another tumour showed up with not enough clear margin, I’m considering an implant while in surgery, has anyone had ADM implant.Acellular Dermal Matrix? I think it’s a recent new one, which my nurse told me is quite popular, would like to speak to someone if possible who has had this. Thank you.

Hi Munchkin

hadn’t heard that term before but, having checked it on google, it sounds like the recon I had - the implant itself wasn’t made of ADM but it is supported by a sort of sling of ADM at the lower part of the implant which is then (as far as I know) attached to the chest muscle. I’m probably not describing it properly but I think essentially its a way of supporting an immediate implant where the muscle, skin etc may not have managed.

I’m over 7 months on from my mx and immediate recon and quite happy with how it all went. I’d say over the last month or two the shape has got a little more natural (it always was a pretty good match as I’m small breasted so my natural boob doesn’t droop much either) as the skin has stretched slightly so it has ‘give’ (again, maybe not describing it very well).

Anyway, hope that helps. If it does sound like the same thing you are looking in to and want to ask any other questions then I’m happy to try and help. Liz x

Hiya. I was diagnosed last August with DCIS. I had 3 operations to get clear margins. Its been a complete nightmare roller coaster until 31st of January when I had a mastectomy with immediate DIEP RECONSTRUCTION. It’s using your own stomach to create a breast. Its the best decision i ever made. You get a flat tummy and the breast is all you with less chance of rejection. I research this site and found so many people had successful Diep and im so grateful i did it. 3 weeks on and i feel great. Hope this helps
