Hi have not posted for a while, had bc in jan 08 lots of treatment , chemo rads etc but fingers crossed ok at the momment. Have breast oedema which is not too bad at times but lately i have noticed rash like skin under my affected breast and around the rib area spreading downwards , it leaves finger marks if you touch it, little bit tender, is this oedema too??
i am due for a check up with my oncologist next week so will ask a few questions then.
Hi Sarah, I’m not sure if what I have is similar to you - it’s almost like stretch marks all over the underside of the breast which are slightly raised, a bit swollen but not at all painful. I was a bit concerned that these weren’t settling (I finished rads mid October) and went to see my bcn a couple of weeks ago who told me it was a perfectly normal skin response. Might be worth just getting it looked at to hopefully put your mind at rest…
I had Alumpectomy and axillary claerance last autumn,2/22 nodes affected subsequently had chemo and radiotherapy- immediately after the radiotherapy my breast became swollen , tender and covered in a red rash, all settled over a 3 vweek period but 2 weeks later it has recurred have had 2 lots of prophylactic antibiotics but my temp was not raised- I have the swelling, the stretch marks and marked tenderness, I am very confused as to wethwer this may be a recurrence of the radiation effects or lymphadenopathy of the breast area- has anyone any more info?
I have an oedema. I had my Mx in march and its like a hard longish swelling just below my scar. Its not painful but it sticks out a bit and it does look bruised sometimes. I rub bio oil on it and do exercises. I have mentioned it many times and there is no concern at all about it. I am just told it will go on its own and may take months. Its a blood clot under the skin and is fine as long as it doesn’t get infected. If it does get infected then they may have to operate, but if they do it may come back - hence they just want to leave it alone. I don’t think there is any connectin with Lymphoedema at all.
saffronseed,
I also had my mx in march and spoke about the oedema with my bcn. bio oil and massage seems to have done the trick on mine, apart from a tiny bit remaining it seemed to all disappear, literally overnight!!
i was told to rub mine towards the arm pit or downthe middle of the breast towards your belly button. “apparently” there are lymph glands there that this drains in too - dont know if its true but mine is definately disappearing! hope it works for you too!!
BCC have produced a booklet about lymphoedema which you may find useful to read as it contains various information such as exercise to prevent lymphoedema. If you would like to read this on line or order a copy just follow the link below:-
