Breast pain - 5 years after mastectomy

Hi

I had a mastectomy almost exactly 5 years ago, then a DIEP reconstruction.  I’m now starting to get pain in the reconstructed breast, if feels like it’s being pinched, or in a vice!  It’s not debilitating, but I am just wondering if this is normal?

 

I guess if you have belly fat in your boob then you will feel certain sensations, it’s just strange that it’s only just starting to happen.  I’m due for a mammagram (my last one) in a few weeks, but they only look at the unaffected side - how do I go about getting my affected side checked?

 

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi I’m only a few months post-op but I do recall my nurse saying some people have long term post-mastectomy pain but you should always get medical advice on anything new. Maybe you should post your question on the Ask a Nurse section here? They are very good and advice about this would probably help many others on the forum too.
