Breast pain after 12 years

It’s been 13 years since my lumpectomy and 12 years since I finished my treatment. Yesterday, I got some terrible pain in the same breast and again today. It’s a shooting pain but then becomes sort of achey for a bit. It’s happened 4 times today. Should I go to go on Monday?

yes I think you should go and see a GP and get a referral to a breast unit as you need to find out what it is for peace of mind. Why do these things happen when you feel you can’t do anything? You could go to A & E but knowing how busy they are at normal times, I would think it will be much worse now. All those children with wishbones stuck down their throats and boozers falling over and cracking their heads open. Breast cancer isn’t usually an emergency as it develops relatively slowly but there are Govt targets for being seen as it’s so common and generally better diagnosed sooner than later.

shame they didn’t factor in religious festivals…

Yes you should definitely get it checked out. However, I had the same kind of pain you described last year, ten years post treatment. I did get it checked out and it was nothing. They told me that it is fairly common for women to get these types of pain 8 to 12 years post radiotherapy but they are not sure why but think there could be a connection with radiotherapy. However, all new symptoms need to be checked.
