I have had non cyclical breast pain for over 6 weeeks, went to Docs today and she found a pea sized lump. Been referred, but Icant think about anything else. It could be bad it could be good but not knowing means I cant think about anything else. I have two very young kids , Im 42 and dont have any family. Im told I should be seen before the end of the week, I offered to pay but told it wouldnt be any quicker. I keep looking at Internet, big mistake, pain can be unusual for cancer but not with a lump. I feel silly I want ot cry but I have no reason to yet.
Hello Jane.
Sorry to hear you’ve found a lump. There’s nothing silly about wanting to cry - I think that’s entirely normal.
What you quote about pain being unusual for cancer but not with a lump is something I hadn’t heard before. Certainly my cancerous lump was entirely pain-free. And before I was diagnosed with BC in December 06 I had had many years of painful lumpy, but benign breast problems.
I do hope your appointment comes through quickly. The waiting is the worst part. In the meantime try not to worry too much. Just remember that 9 out of every 10 breast lumps are benign.
Wishing you lots of luck. Please let us know what happens.

Hi Jane
These days any good GP will immediatley send ALL women to be tested if there is a lump and government guide lines say should all be seen with in 2/3 weeks max.
Most of these lumps are fine and everyone is different some hurt some dont.
Very hard not to worry think its natural also the internet can be a curse as well as a blessing because there is some good stuff out there but also a load of old rubbish. So try not to scare yourself silly cos it can be a bit like kids telling ghost storries before bed.
The not being able to think of anything else and wanting to break down is one thing everyone one on here can identify with.
Hope all goes well for you, and you only come back with good news.
Thinking of you
