Hi
I had lumpectomy last feb followed by chemo rads and i am now on tamoxifen. This last 10 days my breast has realy ached and i am getting intermittent pains. I have what i have been told by a nurse is scar tissue and it seems the pain is all around the lump that is there.
Anyone else had a similar problem.
Thanks
Jackie
Hi Jackie,I had exactly same as you, treatment wise and do get pain now and again in breast where had op,(had op june 06)also get sharp needle like pains,am hoping that as time goes by this will ease, scartissue can do this, heres hoping we will be pain free in time, best of luck D…x
I had WLE 16 mths ago and still sometimes have a sharp pain. My breast is also quite firm( very unlike the other one) and have been told rads damage/tissue/scarring. Its certainly a lot better than it was 6 months ago.

I had lumpectomy in Jan '04 followed by chemo and a lot of rads.Initally I had the sharp shooting pains which the onc told me were the nerve endings which had been cut during the op, and that in time it would go - which it did. However my breast remained very tender for a long time afterwards - and I think this was because of the rads.It took about three years to settle down and feel normal again.

Hi,
I had a WLE in Aug 05 and lymph clearance on my left side. I am now getting “shooting” pains in my breast which is somewhat alarming. I have scar tissue but it is strange this is only starting up again after so long. Is this normal? I am also getting pins and needles in the my hands especially if holding something (i.e. the phone) for too long and when I wake up in the mornings.
Hello All
This is so bizarre - I just logged on to ask this very same question…
MarcieM - you have exactly described what I was going to say!!
I had WLE, axillary dissection and lots of rads in May 05 and used to get very occasional pains (once every couple of weeks or so) if I held my arms in certain position - washing hair over bath etc…
Now I seem to get them several times a day for no particular reason and they seem to be getting more frequent. My breast is permanently tender to touch, but I also get these stabbing kind of pains inside the breast, almost like a cramp pain and its beginning to worry me!
Also - in the last couple of weeks I too have been getting pins and needles in my left arm (op side) especially on waking.
I guess its reassuring that we’re all experiencing similar things - it just seems odd that it appears to be getting worse rather than better with time??
Hi All,
Jackie, I am like you, I had a lumpectomy 1st March 2007 & for the last 2 or 3 weeks my boob has been aching & I have been wearing a bra in bed again. I thought I was being dragged around the field by my horses abit, but I am doing the same things I have done all year!!
Going to see onc in a months time, so will mention it then i guess.
Take care

I had WLE,chemo and rads from Oct2006 until June 2007 just started having shooting pains in treated breast and nder it.Saw onc last tuesday and he said it was damaged nerve endings and ‘may’ go or may not!Have numbness/tingling in hands and feet since taxotere been told it is peripheral neuropathy which again is worse if I’m tired or a bit ill.
I’m still numb under my arm after 4 yrs! I had my nodes removed but its a few inches above the scar. It isn’t going to get any better now but to be honest I hardly notice it! I’ve still got peripheral neuropathy but only in the toes of my right foot.I did have it in both and it used to be painful, now(especially on a bad day) my toes just feel as though they dont belong to me!
I’m so glad you started this thread. I had a lumpectomy in June 07, and the last week i have had pains above where the lump was and under my arm again. Anyway check up time in 2 weeks. It seems that this may all be normal which is reassuring!

Thank you Jackie for starting this thread, yours and all the other comments have helped to reassure me and put my mind at rest. (well a little) I had WLE, SNB and rads which finished at the beginning of Dec 07. So fairly early days still. I started with stabbing pains about the time my rads started and was told the same as Joyce that it was nerve endings. Although I believe this to be the case I still fret when I have a day of sharp pains and soreness. I think I’m suffering more now than when I had the op, mentally as well as physically.
Slight change of subject but just need to get something off my chest. I had lunch with friends today and as usual the conversation got around to our husbands. I said mine has been fantastic putting up with my mood swings. I explained I can go from up here to down there in seconds, there’s no in between anymore. 2 of my friends asked me why. I tried to explain but I was told 1in 3 get cancer you just have to get on with life. I actually feel quite tearful because I haven’t made a big fuss about the bc and have carried on much as before. I feel now I won’t mention it again.
All the best to everyone. Caz x
Hi there,
I had WLE in March 07 and just recently have started getting odd pains in my breast and under arm especially at night, I thought it might be 'cos I fell off my pony and pulled everything about a bit but it seems to be going on too long for that. Could it have anything to do with the hormones (I’m on tam and herceptin). It is reassuring to know others have similar problems but I will run it by the nurse next time i see her. Unfortunatly it is a constant reminder we’ve had bc.
cheers

Forgot to say in my previous post - does anyone have an occasional “burning” pain in the breast, unlike the sharp stabbing pain? I do have mild oedema so could be because of that. I am also having pins & needles in my hand quite often, so this seems quite common, tho I dont know why.
Best wishes Laine
My WLE and ANC was in December 06 and I still have all sorts of pain in my breast - burning and stabbing included. I also get pins and needles in my hand. I’ve got mild lymphoedema in my breast and that doesn’t help.
Best wishes everyone

Hi Anthi - that has made me feel better. Not having a good day as off sick with yet another heavy cold, the pain in my knee is driving me mad(obviously bone mets but too scared to have it checked yet) I have a strange pain in my wrist(back to bone mets) and loads of pins and needles. My ribs hurt last night for the first time - dx was 16 mths ago - and I truly think that I am going mad.
Almost every minute is still full of this, ok I can flick through a magazine or watch TV and forget for a short while and then I have a pain/ache/funny feeling somewhere and its all flooding back, the fear and the incessant worry.
