Breast recon

Hi there,

I have a. meeting in a couple of days to get a delayed recon at QVH

I really dont want a diep but would prefer a lug or tug.

also my other breast has become incredibly small now due to weight loss . would it be possible to ask them to make my reconstruction just a bit larger and do some fat grafting on the unaffected breast?

im not talking something drastic… literally just a b cup as im feeling incredibly low about my body and would like to feel a bit more feminine again after 3 years of single mastectomy

Hey @malou

I don’t have any experience of this personally but just wanted to hop on to say you should definitely ask for whatever it is you want. The whole point of reconstruction is to help make you feel good about your body again so I think trying to maximise it in any way you can is a good move.

All the best with it! x

@malou I do hope you get sorted with your reconstruction, this could be with a plastic surgeon or who ever you feel more comfortable with.

Make a few notes, before your appointment and be completely honest with what you would like for your outcome, I understand your entitlement is to even you up on both side within the NHS. You should feel happy and confident about yourself. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

Wishing you all the very best going forward, please let us know how you’re getting on.

Hi @malou

I had a TUG reconstruction at QVH in 2021 and I’ve been happy with it.

I believe they usually do 2 surgeries, the first being the reconstruction and the second being a refinement. Refinement might include adjusting the shape/size of the reconstruction or your other breast.

The surgeon I had was really helpful so I’m sure they will consider your wishes and give you some advice on what they can do.

Good luck!
