It is being carried out by some Australian researchers, but it is very early days.

Hi

I heard about it on the morning news yesterday. I’m sure if it works it will be suitable for some people so that’s good news. The first thing that occurred to me, however, is covered by the quote below.

“[The team will] have to be able to demonstrate a technique that guarantees that all the cancerous cells are removed and none are grown up in the process, so there is still some way to go.”

I doubt that those of us with aggressive cancers will be queing up to try it.

Yes, I am sure you are right but as I say, it is early days.

I was also wondering whether it would be helpful for people who had a WLE and need ‘padding out’.

From reading the news item, I imagine it may be some time before this becomes available outside a trial, simply due to that problem of possibly triggering stray cancer cells into action - I expect they will need to follow up the trial patients for a while to check on this.

I can applaud this as a scientific advance, but…

…after 13 years of lymphoedema, the last 4 or so bilateral, I’d shop my own granny to be able to grow some new lymph nodes; not sure if I’m that bothered about new breasts (have had mx + TRAM recon one side and WLE the other); two fully functioning arms would be a lot more use to me.

X to all
