Hi
I had a mastectomy with implant 4 weeks ago and am still really struggling with skin sensitivity almost over the whole breast area (apart from a narrow band where it is numb above the scar) and when that isn’t striking hard then I have discomfort in the lower area of the implant.
The skin is hypersensitive and then I get waves when it is feeling sensitive where it feels like tightening in that area.
I also have a small infected area around a stitch for which I have been prescribed antibiotics.
I saw my consultant last week and I have been prescribed pregabalin but am reluctant to take it as I have only heard bad things about the side effects. She just seems surprised that I am experiencing what I am.
So far things I am looking into are 5% menthol aqueous cream, 5% lidocaine cream and a TENs machine.
Has anyone else had this experience and if so what did you do to help lessen the symptoms?
Last week the breast physio told me to be patient but I am starting to struggle mentally as I don’t feel like there has been any improvement for over a week. It doesn’t hurt when I am not moving but any walking around and its with me the whole time.
Thank you

Can you bear to wear a seemless supportive bra top for walking arround? It sounds neurological so pregabain would be a reasonable medication to try.
Yes people can sometimes get side-effects, but you won’t know how you feel until you try it.
I too had a small infection on the last stitch of my lumpectomy scar. Don’t be surprised if antibiotics do little- just kept it static and made me feel very sick after taking them). If that happens, pico worked a treat - maybe tollerable if numb in that area, its a vacuum dressing that sucks out the infection and encourages healing).
Hi taximum, I am 5 and a half years post mastectomy, lymph node clearance, chemo and radiotheraphy. My consultant gave me pregabalin for the awful nerve pain I get. It is a controlled drug and I only take 50 mg in the mornings. My consultant said I could take another 50mg at night if I needed to do so. 100mg at a time makes me sleepy but I have had no other side effects. It is worth a try. Take care. Also sending hugs to all you lovely ladies.

thank you entropy… will see how the next few days go and revisit pregabalin if needed. Saw the breast nurse yesterday who dressed the wound and it looks a bit better today.
Think I might give it a go if things don’t improve soon!.. Hope everything else is ok for you now x
