Breast surgeon appointment

Have I got breast cancer? Appointments and waiting for test results

Hi, a few weeks ago I noticed that my left breast was a bit sore/tender. Had a bit of a feel and felt a sort of lumpy/thickened area where the “pain” was. I kind of ignored it for a bit and then asked my husband to have a feel and he felt it too. After some nagging I eventually went to the GP and she felt the lump too and referred me to the breast clinic.

I went to the breast clinic and the breast care nurse could feel the lump too and noted that it was tender when she was palpating it. I then had a mammogram and a targeted ultrasound and the lump wasn’t visible on either of them. I was feeling quite happy at that point thinking it was something or nothing and that I could go home.

I was called in to see the BCN and she told me that she wants me to see a breast surgeon for further evaluation.

Has this happened to anyone else?

For reference I’m 52 and my mom was diagnosed with BC at the age of 60.

They do it different where I live. I saw the surgeon first then had an ultrasound, mammogram etc after he had had a look. I guess the surgeons are used to seeing lots of lumps, thickenings etc so it could be they want you to see them for there opinion before they decide whether it’s anything to investigate further or not.

They won’t dispense with you until they get an answer either way. It pays to be thorough early on than not.

Yes if they haven’t got to the bottom of it they will investigate further. They might want to do and MRI as they can’t always see everything with mammagrams and ultrasound. Good that they are thorough!! Good luck x
