Breast tenderness after wide local excision

Hi. I had my WLE a week ago and my breast is really tender to touch on the side and underneath . It’s a little bit swollen but not red or hot and I feel ok . It’s been like this for a few days and not getting worse. Is this normal in recovery ? Should I stop the stretch exercises ? Just don’t want to cause any more damage. I’ve taken it pretty easy but have done exercises and walked everyday building up to 3.5 miles yesterday. Any advice from you experiences would be really appreciated. Thankyou

Hi @Stillloveadisco I developed a seroma just above the incision for my WLE about a week after. Not painful or red and no sense of feeling unwell, just a steadily increasing swelling. It stayed that way for about three weeks but the post op clinic were ok with it and its gradually gone down. This may be what’s going on for you but do check with your clinic if you’re worried. Definitely seek help if you think there might be signs of infection like hot and painful. Hope that helps.

Sounds like you’re pushing yourself a bit - it’s always good to walk but take care as sometimes you aren’t as recovered as you think you are ( speaking from experience ) . Do not stop the post - op exercises as they can help with swelling and if you don’t do them there’s risk of everything tightening up .Make sure you are wearing a supportive bra this is especially important as you get more active. It might be worth calling your BCN if you think there’s swelling in case there’s a seroma starting that they might want to keep an eye on. Xx
