Looking for any advice. I’m on my 2nd cycle of capecitibine and have noticed that I’m out of breathe even doing simple things like going up and down the stairs. If I’m on ‘flat’ I’m not so bad but it’s worrying me that I’m feeling so breathless. I’m also suffering with fatigue and I’m on morphine for pain relief so this is probably contributing to the tiredness. I just don’t feel like I can get enough air in my lungs, I did have a chest x ray last week and my Onc said there was nothing obvious on there that I should be worried about so I’m just putting it down to the chemo.
I’m remember feeling breathless on my previous chemos but this passed after a few days but as I’m on a daily regime now it seems to be constant.
You probably should get this checked out. There are lots of things that can make you breathless such as anaemia, hay fever etc. It could be anything.
Sometimes chemo can have all sorts of unwanted effects and sometimes they can impact on your heart and how it functions. Definitely worth getting things checked. A friend on a different site had similar side effects on that chemo. She was able to carry on with it, successfully but it had affected her heart function and she is on medication for that now.
I do not mean to worry you as it is most likely nothing. I feel a bit breathless at this time of the year but I know it is because of allergies.
Hope it gets sorted.

hi claire i have just done a week of capecitabine and am aware of a tight chest feeling today but also achy will see how it goes waitng on scan results too so thought it was anxiety but thinking about it had this on fec/d too xxx
Hi, I was on capecitabine in June for about 6 days before I suffered breathlessness. I rang my onc unit and they told me to come off it straight away, and to cut a long story short I ende up having loads of tests on my heart, the ECG and ECHO were fine and I am still waiting for the results of the cardio-thingamyjiggy. In the meantime I have been put on paclitaxel and feel Ok apart from the hair has gone (sob!). Just wondered how you were - still on the capecitibine???
Sadly I’ve been recently diagnosed with lung mets hence the breathlessness, I’m still on the capecitibine as there unsure as to whether I’ve had the progression whilst on the capecitibine so I’m being scanned at the end of the month and this will be compared to the previous scan I had in the middle of July.
My breathing is still an issue but I’ve had oxygen installed at home and I’m having a app with a specialist to help so I’m hoping I will get some improvement which would make me feel a lot better.
sorry claire but when were you scanned before july, and was it because of the breathlessness that you were scanned then , because as you say the lung mets may have been there before xxx can i also ask are you triple neg or hormone receptive xxx
I’m TN, the previous scan was routine (but I had mentioned how I felt a little breathless but put it down to treatment) but they are unsure whether the lung mets have progressed when I was on the previous chemo (GEM/CARBO) as I had a break on the chemo whilst having rads and before starting the capecitibine.
Very worried but just trying to get on things best I can. The results of my next scan are crucial if I’ve had progression and the capecitibine isn’t working its IV Chemo or possible clinical trial if I’m eligible, anyways I’ll know in a month either way.
Everyone is different and its such a struggle to find what can work for you I’m just hoping and praying I get some good news, its a long time coming.
