Hi all
What does a lymph node feel like in the neck?
I have a funny thing just above my collarbone on same side i had breast cancer in 2007. I cant always feel it but othertimes its very obvious. Could it be a vein. Am due check up in April .
Any comments will be good
Thanks
Jackie
Hi Jackie,
I’m not sure what a node feels like in the collarbone but presume they feel pretty much the same as those that come up in your neck when you have a cold or throat infection.
I wouldn’t wait until April for an appointment but would telephone the breast clinic at the hospital you were treated for BC and get into the next clinic to have them checked out. If they are anything untoward then the sooner you get started on treatment the better, if they are nothing to worry about then your mind will be put at rest.

Hi jackdp
I just wanted to say that if you are at all concerned about a new symptom, it is always best to check with your medical team.
As SuzanneP says, it is probably best not to wait until your check up if you are anxious about things.
Kind regards

Hi Jackie
i agree - no harm in getting it checked now - i had lump ( quite big) around my collar bone and thought it was muscular - when i got it checked out even the surgeon thought it was nothing - but it was - don’t want to scare you but i should have acted sooner - I hope its nothing …but no harm getting it looked at…jayne
The first lump I found above my collarbone was like a hard round pea…quite mobile and easier to find in some positions than others. It was a breast cancer recurrence.
There’s a lot of worrying time before now and April so you might want to bring your appointment forward. If the lump is nothing its great to get the reassurance.
good luck and best wishes
Jane
Thanks for replies
Am going away next week for a short break, will ring up breast care when i return
Jackie
Have a great time away. Put that ‘perhaps lump’ in a box and enjoy.

It seems my node is receding after 2 weeks or so. Was on the verge of ringing breast care today but feel it will be gone if i get to see them in the next few days
Do you thinhk im right to leave it and just keep an eye. Only other itermittent sympton is a really aching shoulder and boob, same side
Thanks
Jackie
Do you want to delay finding out you might have a cancer recurrence?
Do you want to be reassured now rather than keep worrying?
It seems to me these are the key questions to ask yourself.
My neck tumours cause referred nerve pain in my shoulder.
I hope you can make the decsion which is right for you.
best wishes

Jane r
Did your lump go or did it stay til you found out
You have me thinking again now im all up in the air again
I was feeling better about it this morning
Sorry to go on
Jackie
Hi Jackie
I found my lump on a Monday evening and rang the next day for an appointment with my breast surgeon. Got the appointment the following Monday. All week I kept feeling for the lump and sometimes I thought it wasn’t there but mainly I knew it was.
Please, if you are at all worried, then get an appointment…worry is dreadful and can be worse than knowing. On the other hand leaving it a bit longer won’t make any difference to your prognosis if it is cancer.
best wishes
Jane

It seems the lump was a vein and not a lymph node. Good news. But why has it come up suddenly. Been to docs and he is doing some blood test because i feel so awful most days. Shoulder pain is really bad at the mo and my muscles feel weak. Seems something all the time.
