Hy i have stage 2 invasive lobular breast cancer HER2 positive. I have just had 3rd cycle of chemo and it was the worst my tongue was burning and i could not eat for 3 days i have mouthwash but that didnt help much has anyone got any tips
I share your pain. My mouth became so sore on Tuesday night, which was 8 days since I had my docetaxel infusion. I had ulcers deep in the gums, and my tongue was covered in cracks and white blisters. I lived on yogurt, rice and jelly. I used the mouth wash sachets I was prescribed and resorted to bonjela. I spoke to an onco nurse on Friday and she said continue with the mouthwash 3 times a day. Today is the first day I have been able to eat and drink normally. I resorted to using a plastic spoon to eat soft palate food so as to avoid the tip of my tongue.
Please do check with your team in the morning in case it’s start of thrush mouth it will need antibiotics I sucked ice lollies through my infusions and it helped preserve mouth, hope this helps Shi xx
Hey, so I get the burning tongue every cycle, I found the mouthwash actually made it worse so this cycle (number 3)have mouth washed with salt water twice a day. It’s not quite so bad this cycle albeit still tingly and taste is so bad but not as sore and my throat hadn’t been affected so far. Am day 6 today of cycle 3 (TC phesgo)
Thanks for your tips i got mouth swab last week still not had results. I will try ice lollies during next chemo X
I had that during chemo. Gelclair sachets on prescription & oragel from a really helpful Pharmacist enabled me to eat & drink best of luck hope it gets better soon
I took them in a small cool box and just had one after the other after the other whole infusion Shi xx
I had mouth issues, not half as bad as yours, and used pineapple (either fresh or tinned chopped up and frozen in ice cube trays) ice cubes to suck on. Pineapple contains Bromelain which helps reduce inflammation and aids healing,
