Hi, I’m 65 post menopausal and never took HRT because I was afraid it might bring my migraines back.
I’ve been really good, always gone for my squashy boob sessions when invited, I’ve never smoked, okay I like a glass of wine or a G&T but not to excess.
So on March 7th off I went for my routine book squash. Usual blurb about a letter in 2 to 3 weeks so you can imagine my surprise when just one week later I received a letter asking me to attend an appointment on April 13th for a further assessment. I should say at this point that I check my boobs every month and have done so since I was big enough to wear bra"s.
So, I get a call back. My first thought was they’ve either messed up the pictures or got the wrong pair of boobs. Wrong, seemingly there was an asymmetry on my right side that they wanted to check.
The staff at the centre were brilliant.I had a 3D mammogram, ultra sound ,core biopsy and a small metallic marker inserted. I asked the Dr what in her professional opinion she thought this could. I have to say her body language as I got dressed rather gave it away. She said that she was 99% confident it was a malignancy and that she was going to email the hospital for further treatment. This would most certainly involve a lumpectomy with radiotherapy and possibly medication. The one good thing was she couldn’t detect any lymph node involvement.
I go back for my result on 27th April and my first hospital appointment is May 11th. She wanted to get me to the hospital sooner but I have a holiday booked 3rd to 10th May. Something tells me I’m going to need it.
