Can anyone offer any reassurance or hope?
Can anyone offer any reassurance or hope? I have been diagnosed with mets to lung and other places. I understand that because I am triple negative there are only a couple of chemos which might help. I have not been told what these are yet. Can anyone offer me any information, hope or reassurance?
Sincere thanks
Best wishes

Hi Roisin, I can’t help as I’m not triple negative but just wanted to say I know others with mets who, like you, are triple negative and they’re doing so very well.
xx
Oh Roisin - still no decisions yet for you. you’ve been waiting for ages to know what they are going to offer you. I can’t believe you are still waiting. Poor you.
I’m not sure what you’ve had before but apart from herceptin and hormones I can’t see why any of the other chemos wouldn’t be given to you eg Taxotere/taxol/vineralbine/capecetabine/gemcetabine/carboplatin
I’m herceptin positive but hormone neg and the herceptin doesn’t appear to have done much for me but they are offering or I’ve had the above chemos.
I really hope they come up with something soon and that you’re breathing is not getting worse.
Keep in touch

Roisin I am so sorry to read of your diagnosis, such a shame you have to join us here. But you will find us full of optimism and info. I hope you get some answers soon and a plan of action and also hope we can be of some help. I can only reassure you that you are in good company here, where there is a wealth of knowledge and support to be found.
From what little I understand about triple neg BC, the platinum chemos are particularly effective (cisplatin, carboplatin) but I am really not an expert in this area. I think other chemos may be just as effective for you, and as with all of us, it is a case of trial and error to establish which are going to work.
Wishing you all the best,
Jenny

Hello Roisin
I rarely post here but thought I could reply to your message as I’m also triple negative. I was dx nearly 2 years ago (but had had trouble for at least 9 months prior to this) with bone mets, and last May it had moved to my liver. There is no chemo for bone mets, but I was given three weekly infusions of Pamidronate which helps to protect the bones and stop calcium loss.
I was put on taxotere for the liver mets but didn’t cope very well with it. I had 4 out of the 6 sessions and whilst I was on it, the mets reduced. However fairly soon they started to grow again so just before Xmas I was put on Xeloda (Capecitabine) and am just coming to the end of 6 sessions. The scan I had at three months showed a 50% reduction in mets. I am due another scan shortly.
As far as I know all the chemos are available to us triple mets people. I had heard that chemo often works BETTER with triple neg and my onc said it would appear to be so in some people. So that’s a very positive thought. You like me are one of the “some people” - keep that thought foremost!
Best wishes

hi roisin,
i am also triple negative with mets to lungs and other places, i have had quite a few chemos, you can see from my profile, but most of these were for tumours in the breast, before i was diagnosed with mets. since that diagnosis in jan 2006, i have had carboplatin and taxol, both worked for a short time only, but i am starting a chemo called mmm tomorrow and still have other options according to my onc! have just got back from cyprus today and whilst on holiday felt very well and walked for miles, i just think that as long as there are treatments to try and i feel well i try and make the most of things. ,some days are harder than others!
when i asked my onc about being triple neg he said to me that if i had been oestrogen negative but her2 positive i probably wouldnt still be here!
wishing you well
