Hi there,
I finished chemo in May and have a resonable amount of hair but its a horrible dull brown with lots of grey!! I am desperate to colour it.
My breastcare nurse advised me to use Vegetable dye, which I have found on the internet but is expensive and is it really necessary to use this?
Would love to know what you guys have done. I have also bought a dye from Boots but am a bit worried about using it.
A friend of mine from this site finished chemo and rads recently and is having her hair dyed today! I will get her to come on to this thread and speak to you.
I used Clairol Loving Care. Its not as harsh as normal dyes, its as gentle as a shampoo (im allergic to the colourant PPD in normal hair dyes). Contains no Peroxide or Ammonia. You only get the one bottle in the box so no mixing chemicals.
It washes out in 6 - 8 washes and covers grey quite well.
Its about £3.50 a box and can get it from Superdrug, Wilkinsons, Boots or off the net. Unfortunately it cant be bought from supermarkets anymore so when I get mine I buy a few boxes in one go as it saves trips and time!
HI Ruth
I coloured my hair with Loving Care 7 weeks post chemo with no problems. Holland and Barrett also do a natural dye that seems to be safe.
Good luck
I actually went to the hairdressers today to have my hair coloured, she used a veg based colour I was told not to use chemicals as the hair is very new and could be damaged.
Hi all. I finished chemo in March and quicly grew lots of awful grey fluff (I’m only 28!). I left it for a could of months and then just went for it. I used Nice and Easy and didn’t have any problems. I figured that it couldnt possibly make me feel any worse as my self-confidence was at an all time low. I felt so muh better for it.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do!
Dyed mine a couple of weeks after rads finished, couldnt stand the fuzzy grey/brown stuff. Used Wella streak kit, peroxide the lot. Nothing terrible happened! It sti;ll keeps growing like mad. Zoe x
Sorry I couldnt make the meeting yesterday. I didnt realise you finished your chemo the same time as me and sound as if you have the same colour hair. I used to be mousey fair but now my hair is coming back curly and very muddy coloured with a few grey ones dotted around and I am longing to dye it.
I’m going to leave mine a couple more weeks then do as strand test with the colour I want. If thats ok then I’ll slap the lot on. I’ll let you ladies know if I’m left with a green frizz or something worse!
I was told by Chemo nurse that can use only semi permanent dyes 3 months after last chemo and permanent after 6 months.
Mine came in about 50% grey and I used Naturtint which has no chemicals. I bought it from my local health store but I,ve seen it in Holland and Barratt. I have a hairdresser friend, who mixed up only half of the product in a dish as my hair was very short and after about 4 weeks I used the rest of it. It costs about £8.99 and is pretty good but starts to fade after about 4 weeks. I now use Nice and Easy and have had no problems.
The only problem I have is that my hair is really thick wavy and bushy , can anyone remember the Hair bear Bunch, from Kids telly. Its a bit like that, I,m trying to grow it but it looks such a mess all the time. I,m really tempted to try a Posh Pixie cut I think it looks great.
Could you please let me know if the nice & easy that you use is permanent or non permanent. Also what shade did you use ? and did it turn out the shade you expected ?
I use a permanent. I think it is a medium brown and it all depends on your hair type but it comes out a little darker on me but gets a bit lighter after a week or two.
Love Andrea xx
Im thinking of dying my hair, currently brown with a little grey coming in. 2 years post chemo and just had recon. Its fairly short. I feel like a new look for when I go back to work.
