Cancer made me buy…

No, not weird. As long as I don’t have to use it :joy::joy::joy:

I cleared my wardrobe and drawers of clothes I haven’t worn in ages (mainly gifted by extended family) and have been buying new clothes.

Oh I’ve just sorted some clothes out to put on vinted. Well I’ve roped my daughter into doing the uploading part for me. It’s therapeutic.

Egyptian cotton bedding from M&S - I’ve never spent so much on bedding before :woman_facepalming:t2:. But I get sooooo hot in bed at night and it stays cold and is soooo cooling. It’s worth every penny!

Yes like @katie91 i chucked out a load of cosmetics, toileteries and cleaning products as per Yuka app, although to be fair i had started the process before i was diagnosed with shampoo, dishwasher tablets and washing machine eco balls. I read a ton of books of various genres, but particularly loved the Seven Sisters series, light reading, but set all over the world with historical backgrounds. I thought i might do some sewing and bought a kit but thats still in its box and i couldnt get my head around drawing or painting, but have gone back to that now. However my best purchase was my garden egg chair, it was so comfy and cosy and great to be outside in fresh air reading or snoozing. I also was given a pretty notebook in which i made lists of all the places and trips i wanted to go on, ive only done two so fa r tho. Sadly i also bought a lightweight hoover.

A new car! I lease mine and was offered a deal to change. My old one was only 2 years old so before (and since) I’d not change that early.

I did though - using the excuse that I needed something nice and a treat mid-way through chemo post mastectomy, new me, new car etc. etc. etc.

I changed that car 3 years later a week or so after my hubby died and I picked it up the day after his funeral!

I am hoping the next change will be without any drama/trauma involved!

I’m sorry to hear about your husband.

A similar thing happened to me with a car. I picked up a new car literally the evening before my mum died. I always then associated that car with my mum dying and changed it way earlier than I otherwise would have done.

I went into the Vivienne Westwood boutique after my final radiotherapy treatment and bought myself something nice. Felt like I deserved a treat.

Wigs that I will never use (any tips on good places to sell the expensive one will be gratefully received).

More books than I can number. Amazon prime is a godsend for cheap books to download on Kindle. Going through a book a day at the moment. Yes I’ve been a right lazy cow!

Sadly, a walking device so I can hold on to it to walk with a built in seat to perch on. Prior to my diagnosis I was really struggling with a herniated disc and sciatica, which has been exacerbated with chemo. I feel a berk using it, but I need to get moving, and I can barely manage more than a few steps without a walking aid. Walking was a big passion of mine, so I feel really sad that I have the time to do it, but not the ability.

So many creams, potions and lotions. Nobody prepared us for the fact that cancer is really flipping expensive!

I’m sorry to hear about your husband, let’s hope this car is the best yet x

Definitely! I love that you did a treat. Just the name of Vivienne Westwood sounds exotic.

Good on you for using the walking aid. My MIL needs one and won’t and it’s frustrating for us as we could take her out more.
Yes, I said to my husband it isn’t cheap to have breast cancer.
I dont know where you could sell the wigs. Maybe ask Mc Millan ? Or Maggies charity.

@hen thanks love. I will get my mate’s daughter to help me do EBay. I get where your MiL is coming from, but I am so desperate to get walking (this cycle of chemo has given me really bad oedema on my legs and ankles) that it has driven me to do it. Hopefully your MiL will find her tipping point (not in a bad way) and will make the decision to get one. x

What a fantastic thread! So far I have bought a hugely expensive cotton dressing gown from Toast for hospital/surgery since I don’t currently have one at all; lots of books; a lambswool throw; some new watercolour paints; and a mini box theatre kit.

What a fab combination of practical and fun.
What type of watercolour do you like to do?

I’m not very good! I follow Harriet Winton (de Winton paper co) and try her tutorials. At the moment I’m working through her advent calendar tutorials although I’m about a fortnight behind.
