Cant work by emmalou Hi all
I have started a new thread on behalf of emmalou with this post

Kind regards
BCC Host

Ive had a lumpectomy and an axillary clearance on 5/12 and I have been signed off work for 8 weeks! I have no sign of lymphodema or any other problems please can someone tell me why ive been signed off for this long, Ill be climbing the walls soon!

back to work I suppose it all depends on what you do - I sit at a desk all day with computer input. What do you do? But that does seem like ages - I’d have a chat with your bc nurse. I had lumpectomy back in august - and was back at work within 10 days. I had to go back for mastectomy 11 October - and was back at work for early November… shud depend on how you feel.

Hi emmalou I had a mastectomy and anc and was in hospital for a week as I had problems with fluid building up. I spent 3 weeks at home recovering, then went back to work. My GP and breast care nurse thought this was too soon, but I felt fine and was climbing the walls at home! I was only sigend off for a month, but was supposed to get my GP to extend that as necessary.

Ultimately I guess you can go back when you feel ready, but if you have an occupational health unit at work, they might feel you should stay off for as long as you’re signed off. Have a chat with your bcn or GP and see what they say.

work at school I work as a lunchtime supervisior(dinner lady). I guess its because kids can be a bit unpredicable. I suppose I should just enjoy the time off!
